And as far as a swap, in my opinion, the S50 is the BEST swap for an E30. The motor is lighter than the M30 and puts out significantly more hp. (240 vs 208 )
But i would second the motion to first do wheels and suspension. There is nothing better for a well-balanced 318is than to upgrade the handling capabilities on an already capable car. Handling is the strong point of the 318is.
and do spend time on www.m42club.com, there is vast amounts of M42 knowledge over there that only can get barely touched on here in the R3V M42 subforum.Mtech1 v8 build thread - https://www.r3vlimited.com/board/sho...d.php?t=413205

They are about the same weight dude...and if you were going through the trouble might as well do an s52 / obd1, get the best motor you can afford. S54s are dropping in price as well, so to say s50 is the best motor is a little iffy.

They are no more than $20, and you can make one yourself. I actually just ordered one.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I drove an E30 with that gay useless clutch stop, it was about the most annoying vehicle I have ever driven since my dad's 1987 Ford F-250 N/A diesel 4-speed manual with shot synchros.
but then again, he had it adjusted so that the clutch barely disengages once the pedal hit the stop, and getting started was a huge pain, because I would instantly stall out, since I couldn't "feel" when the clutch started to grab.
