We ignited our FSAE formula car with a shitty old battery charger during competition, luckily we were there and a fire extinguisher was close by.

Glad nobody nor your house got burnt but sucks none the less.

Well damn, dont that suck.

My wifes, grandmothers, boyfriends, son ( wow ) was trying to charge a battery over night on his plow truck so he could have the driveway clear so family could make it back to his house since it was Christmas eve.
He woke up to a smoke alarm and half his house was on fire. Lost everything they had the day before Christmas. You my friend got lucky, atleast you can sell parts from it.

But anyways, the point of the story is this. The charger came from sears and there happend to be a recall on it. So the company who made the charger had to pay them back for everything they lost in the fire..
