You know you can edit your posts right? Oh, nevermind you're just trying to rack up your post count...

One benefit of having an m42, fixing a cracked pan is nice and easy.

I believe he used a specific type of e36 motor mounts with a shorter throttle body from a early model, but Im not too sure on the details

Yeah mines shattered to hell, i'll post pics when i get it off.

          anyway,

I was at the yard for 3 hours and managed to get the bolts off and the pan loose, but i really don't want to have to drop the subframe to get the bitch out.
I tried to tie a seat belt around the motor and had the guy lift it but it didn't move enough to get it off. If i just take off the motor mounts would i have enough play to lift it and get the pan out?

WOW! that looks SO easy to fab. I even got the tubing at the shop... over 300 is steep for a skid plate.

I have done a lot of reading on skid plates. $295 shipped sounds like a lot of money but, look at what you get a top notch skid plate with proven durability. A hoop bar that connects the frame rails at the front of the car which, seems like it would be much more effective than any kind of X-brace. You could go with EJ and pay $533 shipped for plate and X-brace. Which is $238 more for "light duty". ;)

oh man. there was an m20 oil pan just sitting on the ground a month ago at jessup. i looked at it for a while, wondering if i should grab it. guess i should have.

you can get oil pan gaskets at autozone or advance auto parts. i did.

Can't you just bend the steering rack tabs down, unbolt and lower the rack and slip the pan out? That's how I R&R'd my pan, IIRC.

You *might* have to unbolt the oil pump or something in there.. I don't really remember now. But I remember it was pretty easy.

Ive got 2 of EJ's skid plates and they take plenty of abuse. Id also rather support a known r3v member who contributes to the community. Its been beat to death but EJ's skid plates will handle most anything you throw at them
