My '90 iX over the last year!

Haven't posted on here in a while so heres what I've been up to in the least year or so.

Last summer I did my shocks. Bilstein HD's.

Rust galore! That fuel line protective cover and the exhaust hangers were replaced a week later

Last september...a week before I was going back for my sophomore year at college, the splines on my output shaft of my transfer case rusted out. This came at a crappy time since...I had ZERO time. So it stayed at a shop for a week or two until I gathered the parts

Which meant I needed one of these. Which was picked up in NH from euro depot.

This also gave me an excuse to rebuild my shift linkage. These are the old bits

I then threw on a cheap set of b-caps on my blizzaks and it did winter duty

For Christmas I asked for some bilstein HD struts. The plan was to just run the stock springs. However winter means rust, and being at school I didn't have the funds or the resources to DIY. I had to wait until summer when I could build up enough money for all the labor.

However during this winter my suspension really took a beating. When I attempted to do the struts over a friends house, I discovered that my driver side tie rod was toast. Threadings were gone from the ball joint and the boot was torn.

I drove it this way for about three months. During this time I hit 200k

Found a set of tie rods from a friend.

    Ooooo!

    Had my starter die

Installed ALL new hoses and another thermostat

    Analog clock

Guten parts alpina replica tach stripe

And then in typical fashion, when It was time to install my struts....both my springs snapped. Oh and my strut housings were ROTTED and the struts would not unthread.

So the only logical thing to do was...buy H&R sports :D

ten2doyle hooked me up with a set of housings from his track/parts car

Which I sanded off the rust, primered, and then painted

    All ready to be installed

    These are the old bits

And this is how it sits right now

And for reference, this is how it looked last summer. 4x4 status

And 4 years ago. PO shots

Its future includes my MT1 wheel, new sway bars, front SB end links, all bushings, and a z3 1.9 shift lever. Thanks for looking! :D

Yep lol. After filling two 1.5" binders full or receipts and constantly being broke because of break downs...I still keep spending the money and coming back. It really is everything I'm looking for in a car. Its just a beast in the snow and a great summer fun car.

Speaking of receipts I was looking at my control arms today and noticed grease was everywhere. 50 bucks for one rubber boot. Damn CV's :???:

Thanks for the kind comments guys.

Check my thread about cv boots from autohausAZ. They are like 6 bucks a piece and people on here and bimmerforums say they are pretty good. Those are the ones I ordered to do my cv joints.

nice car! did you know you can open up that particular stereo and solder in your iPod adapter so you don't have to hang the cord out the front?

$12.15 for an ix cv boot rebuild kit. I'm all for a good deal but...thats a quarter of the price I paid for. Seems sketchy :???:

yep. I did that mod on my first head unit before it broke. However on the days that my iPod is dead I like to listen to the radio. I also found a cassette holder for cheap and went through a cassette phase for a while

Well I did have a shop do the transfer case and the struts. No air compressor and little to none experience here. I'm not quite ready to swap in a t-case in a driveway. I'm definitely improving though, 4 years ago an oil change was about my limit lol

Thanks! You're cars were a huge inspiration to me actually. Clean silver with some nice mods on euro weaves. Didn't you used to have a coupe?

Hmmm...I love that bav auto gives me next day shipping but this may become my new vendor of choice.

Old transfer case was sold to pay for my new unit. Strut housings are rotting away in my garage as we speak. Coilovers hmmm? :p

Yup, I still have it. I fell bad about it too since I raped its goodies to put on the glacier but I have full plans on bringing it back better than before. These are a big part of it. :)
