    1986 318i

    hopefully purchasing a 1986 318i from western Australia on Sunday
    it has the m10 in it unfortunately just wondering what the best upgrades would be without swapping or big money spent

    Not much can be done with an m10, they're pretty old-school and don't have much room for tuning of any kind. Your only options for real power would be larger displacement (I think you can get up to 2.1L using some diesel crank), turbo (one of our forum members makes well over 300whp on his m10) or engine swap.

    Alternatively, you should be able to do an m20b25 swap on the cheap, less than $1K easy

      i can get a whole 323i for 300 was thinking get that for the engine shelo has hail damage but its auto can i use my gearbox at the momment??? Any help would b gratefull

        Swap would be the cheapest. the M10 *can* be built, but you would have to be quite attached to it as it would be a lot of time and money.

          Yup. BMW's reputation in motorsports was built on the M10. In it's most developed turbocharged form it was pushing 1500hp, not that you'd want to drop the kind of coin required to do so.
