    SilberAdler the 318i

Hello everyone, I'm still quite a noob you could say when it comes to Bimmers. I recently picked up an '84 318i 2dr. 5spd. I haven't done too much to any Bimmer other than rims and exhaust to my '87 325i vert before i got in a wreck and toatled it. I would like some help/ ideas for my 30. I dont have pictures yet though. here are a list of my plans:

IR stage 3's with bilsteins, front and rear sways and struts, headers, m42 radiator, z3 shifter, TB and TB spacer if not ITB's, Wires, Volvo front lip, and a remus sport exhaust off the vert, chip, intake etc.

What do you guys think/ recommend???

This will be my DD, i dont care about a bumpy ride, just want it to be stiff, and not bottom out on everything.

You swapping an M42 into the 84? If you already have a M42 laying around I would go with what Danny said. Just to let you know the older 4 bangers came with the m10(gutless money pit engine) If you don't have a m42 in or laying around go m5x or s5x depending on what kinda power your looking for. A simple b25(motor in your vert) would do WONDERS.

Ground-control.com is where you wanna get the coils. All the building info is at the bottom of my post in a link. You don't have to cut your housings to do the swap. That is just for more useless low.

And tirerack.com for the shocks and struts. AKG for bushings and Meyle for control arms. Treehouse racing for eyeball bushings. Just a tip of suspension things to get rid of unwanted travel and loose bouncy body movement.

Search and read builds mostly. Anything you would want to do within reason has been done or is being done here on r3v. E30tech is where all the turbo tech is. So check that site out if you want more in depth info on boost.

        Welcome to r3v!

Thanks!! that really helps! and about the m42, I dont have one laying around. but, I need a new radiator, so i thought "why not" get the bigger one. But I've heard people talk about turbo-ing a 4 banger... do people usually turbo a m10 or m42? would it even be worth it to turbo my m10?

M10s are very much "worth" turboing.

It cost too much get m50 power out of the m10. Just buy a m50 if you just want a nice pile of power. It is not the fastest but makes a HUGE difference over the m10,42 and m20s

Depends on where you look, I get them 100 and under. Check craigslist and other such places.

I don't think they are worth boosting. But Good and Tight made a FUCKING monster out of one.

Your base is good - as it is on the light side.
However, the M10 is trash. M50's aren't very pricey anymore.
Why just last week, one was posted on CL for $300; low miles, good shape.

here's the way i see it... get an m50 from ryan for cheap and have him build you the wiring harness... ripp the tranny out of that mangled alpine vert i used to love so much. Hook them up, do the necesarry modification, and roll. Can't wait to come home from college and work on it with you buddy

**edit** for those of you who read this. his vert was in a front end collision and the motor may not be salvagable

                            Wrong.

M50 is not a "pile of power". M10s can be boosted to above M50 specs very easily and very reliably. Trust me when I say, drop the 2k you were going to spend on an M50 swap into a turbo for your M10 and you'll be much happier.

E30 F34R, please stop talking out of your ass.

Another idea would be rounding up a nice & cheap M42, then turbocharging it.
What's your spin on that Danny? Something I was thinking of as well...
but M50 sounds so much more attractive.
