Thanks for the comments guys (even the one about tossing the m40, that made me chuckle). Have some more pictorial and video updates coming from yesterday working on the brakes for you lot.
I havent really driven the car much as the brakes are still largely unsorted but the quick strap up the street revealed that with the stock wastegate set at 10psi the turbo comes on hard at around 3800-4000rpm and then just lights the tyres in second and third. This turbo doesnt really hit its efficiency band until 16psi or so. To that effect once the brakes are done properly and everything is nailed with no loose ends (and I learn to drive it :D ) I will pop in some 550cc injectors, an FCD, an EBC and crank it up to 20psi or so and see what happens. I think it should comfortably make 400-440hp at the soon to be non existant rear tyres :)
Straight after this one is finished we are embarking on a Nissan vq30 turbo v6 into an e30 as we have both lying around and as this project seems to have been so popular figured we would have another crack with what we have learnt so far. Other than the brakes this has come together surprisingly easy and if there is some interest I may look at replicating some of the parts needed to fit it.Last edited by sketchypip; 01-08-2011, 06:35 PM.1989 318i coupe, 2JZ, 380rwhpComment

More updates :D
Spent yesterday working on getting the brakes sorted plus a few other things.
Sourced a set of Chrysler Voyager rotors to use on the front due to them being the same hat offset but 305mm and 28mm think compared to the e30 stock 260mm and 22mm or thereabouts.
The also have a slightly larger centre bore so required a fitting ring to be machined to sit over the e30 bearing (the small ring zip tied to the rotor in these pics).
The difference in size is noticable to say the least :)
As is the thickness
Got the other suspension in too (Sport struts with lower king springs and Koni adjustables)
The plan was to use a set of Nissan 4 pots I've had kicking around for years
A spare dirty set was in the shed so we used these for mock ups. Looks good.
The caliper bolt spacings were different and the disc rotors much bigger than stock so the standard mounts will be used to bolt the caliper adapter brackets.
Locking the pistons onto the rotor using air pressure so measurements can be made for the brackets
At this point we decided to chuck the wheel on to check for fitment. Bollocks, brakes sit about 15mm further out than before and the wheel doesnt fit.
Putting the two calipers side by side the extra width becomes apparent.
Tried a subaru twin pot caliper that was languishing out in the yard but they use a narrower disc so didnt fit over the Voyager rotor.
We then started to think about other twin pots we had access too that will fit a large thickish disc. A pair of twin pot Supra brakes should do the trick :)
But, these turned out to be just too wide as well. Lots less than the nissan items but not enough to fit my precious Simmons.
A common commodore twin pot is our target now. Easy to find, worth nothing, used to stop 1800kg barges and a massive range of cheap pads.
While all this was going on, myliberty cocked around stripping the twin turbo motor full of aids. Subaru's make you sad face.
I also dug my old school electric Recaro interior out of the shed in preperation to be fitted.
Ol skool ****** pimp. These bad boys have electric reclining and three air bags in the back for lumbar support. Farken heavy though :(
Matching rears
Took the oppurtunity to fit my koni adjustable rears and rear strut brace. I had a set of custom urethane mounts made many years ago in my other turbo e30 which worked brilliantly. One was in perfect nick, the other pretty much exploded when pulled from the car hence the top mount in the picture looking all borked. The existing rooted shocks actually had a really good set of top mounts so these were plugged in and the the rears installed.
Ghetto spec rear strut brace
Rear tyres are average to say the least from the original 1.8 of fury. Will be replaced as soon as the car sees proper road time.
By this stage it was late in the arvo and we had drunk lots of beer and couldnt be arsed doing much more so for chuckles performed a few tests of smoothness on the engine.
