Good investigative sleuthing gentlemen. Impatiently waiting for "the rest of the story", to quote Paul Harvey.

Perhaps he was involved in a hit and run and doesnt want to incriminate himself ?

^I think the simplest answer is the most likely one. Bump steer into a corolla.

Also, in a past thread, someone knew his situation there - this is what I gleamed off of them :

He wasn't do the work himself. He had some neighbor that lived right down the street that was some retired BMW mechanic. It sounded like he was picking up work from japandrew for a while, and encouraging him to spend more money on the car. His parents (who were footing the bill) got taken for quite a ride. You combine one OCD kid, an out-of-work mechanic, and sucker parents, and apparently you get a perfect storm.

It's this mechanic "friend of the family" that did the brunt of the work. All the cleaning was JapA's doing, and the parents cut the checks.

Isn't it the guy who built the S54 TT 2002 who "helped" him with the work?

Someone should start contacting neighbors, family members and known friends for the story.

well whoever really believed a 19 year old kid had that kind of money to spend must be retarded, I think it was quite obvious someone else was paying for it.

I guess I'll be one of the few to say, Andrew, sorry for your loss. Despite all the bs, you lost your "baby" and I can relate to that. Your car was beautiful and I hope you take on the task of building another. My condolences.

If I lived there, I'd want that mechanic to work on my car. It was top work, except possibly the notched subframe. I wonder how he prevailed on the "friend of the family" mechanic to get him to do that.

Pretty sure it was so he could keep the m30 mechanical fan, but I could be wrong.
