    My temp drift car

Long story short, I'm rebuilding an S52 for the boosted real drift car. Since I don't want to miss any drift days, I bought back a car I had years ago.

I originally bought this car years ago for $900 negotiated down to $600 due to what the PO thought was a bad oil pump. I dropped the pan, checked the pump, resealed everything and fixed the wiring on the oil pressure sensor. So I drove around this 1989 325i auto for a few months.

Eventually I did a manual swap and sold it for a good profit. Then, a year later, the new owner decided he couldn't keep it and sold it back to me for $500. Can't get much better than that right? Chassis currently has 165k or so on the clock.

The point of the car is to give me something to slide for this season for as cheap as possible. The wife is currently unemployed so money is tight. Meaning, I swapped over all the parts from the turbo drift car.

    Mods:
    Koni yellows front
    Mustang koni yellows rear
12k front springs, 18k rear springs.
    E46 control arms
E30 M3 front sway links w stock sway bar
    no rear sway bar
    3.73 lsd
    Kmac camber/caster plates
    17x8 xxr 006 w direzza star specs 215/45/17 front
in the pictures below 17x9 006s with feddies 235/45/17
    When drifting I run 15x8 xxr 002 or 513s w 195/60/15 random tires
    25mm spacers all around
5mm tie rod spacers (hence the spacers)
    THR lollipops
    solid bushings in the rear
    75d trailing arm bushings

    No engine/drive train mods

I had to raise the car more than I wanted to since this chassis doesn't have the flares and such and the spacers make it look a bit mexi poke but it drifts like butter. So far I've done a couple drift days and an NCCA autox with no issues.

    Greasy underside lol

    OMG an interior!

    Stockity stock stock engine bay.

Not Janderson pretty/clean obviously. At least it gets my track day on.

Not Janderson clean, but it does run, and on the first page of the thread no less! Well done it looks like fun.

Sparco fighter seat. I'm not sure they sell it anymore. I've got a wide ass so it doesn't fit skinny people.

Dude. You drift? For real? Man - that's awesome. I know not anyone can do that. It's not like just anyone can go out and drift. You should be proud. That shit is tight.

What's the story on the e46 CAs? Is the geometry similar to stock, 96+ M3, or entirely different?

Here is the write up I did a long while ago on the control arm swap http://e30performance.info/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=1006

It's a 90 degree angle unlike the stock >90. I'm not sure what the 98 M3 control arm angles are. I'm not sure if this works as a sub for the 98 m3 ones for the 5 lug swap. It also adds about an inch and some change of width in the front. Without spacers for the rear, it'll look funny.

nice work, one question. on the stock engine are you kicking the clutch to break traction?

I remember when drifting was seen as a second rate automotive-figure-skating on this forum. How things have changed. Not necessarily for the better or worse, just different. ;) I like seeing how things evolve.

Yep mostly clutch kicking. The stock M20 doesn't have enough power to keep the tires spinning that well so I have to persuade it most of the time. If I drive fast enough, I can get it to slide naturally but most of the time if I have enough space.

There still is plenty of hate and people that have no idea what it is. *shrugs* I have fun at it.
