    Nice! yeah that's where I think I'm headed with the s52. Really want to go the s54 route but just seems you can make plenty of power with FI and s52 and it be very reliable.

      Nice one dude!! Does the b27 work well? I have bought one to, to put in my E30. It has the 885 cylinder-head. My plan is also to mont a "sharper" cam.. Is your 272 working good? Does it make any big difference?

        the current engine in my car is a B27 (usa economy e spec, very low on power).
        I have not yet installed the long tube header high output 2.7, That is a project for august :)


        Hardy and Beck built the 327s engine from a grey import 323i car in 1985, they were the importers and engine builders (and alpina west coast dealer),
        I'm guessing the spec of this engine will be very similar to the alpina branded e30's with 2600cc-2800cc m20's.

        regarding the 272 cam; I have data from a local grind setup from a new core 323i cam, however I have not consulted with H&B directly about what the original cam setting was nor verified the cam myself by measuring. We will be able to see where the power curve is when the engine makes it to the dyno..... should tell a bit about the cam also.


        this "327S H&B engine has 10.5:1 pistons and head all setup to work as a unit from H&B vintage 1985". I am not going to use the L-jet system (as I have no source of parts and do not know how to really use it).

        Market Motor Works in Georgia is sending me a Motronic 1.3 conversion kit for my engine, After the 327S engine is converted to motronic I will then ponder what chip / tuning setup to use.

        This is a new puzzle game for me, I have not yet been on quest for a vintage engine history in my automotive history....YET!!!

        Will be glad to share any information I can about the engine :)

          Yes, same as EUR-modell 325e. Less power, but more volume. 130HP..
          My engine has got an overhaul cylinder head.. My inlet is now from B20, but will mount over from the b25. Will also use "air flow meter" (???) from E34 535, and nozzles as vell..

          Starting my built when the winter arrives 8)

            different kind of car yes, for brute force approach the s52+turbo kind of thing has become the new 2j. :P
            local friend is over 1krwhp on 86.4mm bore and s52 crank lol

            s54 is pretty nuts from sheer RPM, I'm glad I am not attempting S54+TT with my e30 chassis lol. the e36 should stand a decent chance of staying on the ground (I hope) :P


            have you motorsported your 24v vs the prior 12v or 16v in yours? I'm really courious of the feeling change, s52 feels better in the nose of a e36m than an s54 IMO as far as weight/balance is concerned on tight tarmac roads.

              are you aiming to make NA power for allround use in your 2.7? I initially wanted to turbocharge but then bought this engine ;)

              I am shooting to make a all round car with the e30 (focus on downhill mountain driving), but will do track days with it as well. I want m20 weight and chassis balance, and have goal of 200 rwhp (if possible on pump gas).

              hopefully the car can be ~ 2400lbs with full interior and be able to carry 4 people. We will see if possible-

                2400 isnt gonna happen with full interior. a more realistic goal with full interior is 2600.

                  Ya? Even without Ac, no abs,no power steering, Stock small brakes and 14" wheels?

                  What needs out to be 2400 and change?

                  I thought 318is's were 2450 stock?? The iron 6 is not THAT much heavier, nor is the 188mm running gear. Seats can be changed and also windows converted to manual as the panels have plugs already - I'm not opposed to building a 168mm diff up and changing to lighter driveline (g240) if needed-
