Hell of a ride was right. My ears were ringing after 20 miles of driving from home to the exhaust shop. Got stopped about half a mile from my house by a local sherriff. He told me and my dad (driving the 'support vehicle') to take the car directly home, and said that I was lucky he 'was a race car driver and liked race cars' :? (must have seen the fixed seat and roll bar)

Took off in the opposite direction from home and at about a mile from the shop I got some more attention from the authorities. The cop pulled along aside me on the off ramp as we were driving up a pretty steep hill (read: engine load with open headers = loud). The cop got infront of me at a left intersection turn, and I thought at that point I would surely be pulled over. Even idling, this thing was LOUD! And to make matters worse, the car began to hunt for an idle speed.....

Then, for some reason, the cop gets out of the left turn lane, and drives straight through the intersection :D Saved! Then I proceed to drive down University Ave, a pretty busy and trendy area (for the unacquainted to San Diego) getting stares from everyone, both sides of the street :) Made it to the shop, checked for leaks, and got a ride home.

Car still needs quite a bit of sorting out. The SRS light was blinking at me, the ABS light was on, the coolant temp gauge didn't budge at all, and the tach seemed off (65mph was at around 3.8-4k rpm w/ a 4.10 rear)

I'll post some more pics, once the car is buttoned up properly and shiny :D

Hey man, haha, interesting to hear about the authorities. I was w/ open pipes (well, one glasspack) a few weeks ago, for 2-3 days. I hit a re-tread on I-85 and it snagged my exhaust clamp and separated the rear section, fun as hell to drive around, but fucking loud!

For your tach, have you changed the coding plug to a 325i unit? That is necessary so that it reads for a 6cyl. I'm not sure ab the temp sensor issue

Did you tap into the head for coolant temp?

            BimmerToad:

Yeah, I tapped the head for the sensor.

Question: Does the cluster coolant temp gauge run off of the newly tapped port, or the stock M50 one?

Car is still at the exhaust shop, and unfortunately I won't get it back until Monday :( But the system should be pretty nice when done (304 SS mandrel w/ metallic cat)

Stu: I changed the coding plug to one that was supposed to be a 325i unit. Would an eta unit work as well? If not, maybe I have an eta coding plug....
