sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards so....

can anyone tell me what the pully is on the steering knuckle?

It looks like they left out the spacers in the steering knuckle also. only reason i can think of is that its had an e36 rack swap and they didnt cut um down and put um back in. I have no idea how to tell the dif between e30 and e36 racks though.

Ill be spraying the engine bay down this afternoon and ill prob split the tranny from the engine and check out what i have going on for a clutch also.

clutch was newish so ill run it. not a whole lot going on in the last couple days. Just cracked the tranny from the engine and pulled the clutch. then got a shelf to thro the random parts from the rabbit truck project that were hangin out and rearanged all the other crap in the garage to make room for 2 engines.

A buddy did find some shorty headers at a local domestic swap meet that we're gonna see if we can use um to face the proper direction and snake the exhaust around the bottome of the bell housing. hard to tell though with out the engine in the car.

also still trying to figure out rack ive got in the car. pointing more and more at the e36 rack tho as after i sprayed everything down and knocked all the road grime off i could see the rack came from a salvage yard somewhere.

Old motor was a 50oz 4 bolt balancer motor w a reverse flow wp New motor w/ the fancy reg flow wp is a 28oz (old style) 3 bolt balancer. Pullys dont swap. Gonna call this afternoon to make sure ive got all the stuff to go vbelt.

so heres where im at. I picked up the ford racing billet underdrive pulleys and discovered the alt bracket i bought wouldnt work with the pulleys as its made for a serp belt setup but i needed the high mount setup rather then the stock mustang mid mount to make sure i cleared the frame rail. After a few hours with some stacked washers to get preper alignment i made the setup work by cuttimg the spacers down to the proper size. just have to replace 1 bolt that is to long.

next i tried using the "old" presure plate and clutch on the new flywheel. turns out basicly everything that mounts to the old 28oz 302s are completely dif then the newer 50oz(302) imbalance motors. in fact i really should have done more research as i ended up with a mid 60s engine that had the 3 bolt harmonic balancer rather then the 4 bolt that all the 302s came with after 68. would of been back in the car and running if id have gotten a later 5.0. now ill be spending an extra $700-1000 to swap over to the old style vbelts and the new flywheel required to run the t5. At least i have a stout engine that i know will be reliable.

picked up a set of bilstein sports for the front and installed the cosmos i picked up.

thanks its got alot more perdy then i planned but figured at 35 bucks a pop for stock steel through summit i may as well shell out a bit more for the billet pieces. went with the billet bracket and adjuster because the wp is run off the same belt as the alt and didnt want the oem style bracket losening up and throwing a belt. Ive heard of a few people blowing brand new motors do to a thrown wp belt.

Ive actually got rid of a few cool guy bling items that came with the motor already as they wouldnt fit in the e30

You have to hit a good bit to clear for the bell housing.

im going to have to pick up a few hoses and rewire some stuff but i hope the hard part is over.

i took about 3 hours a couple days ago to pull all the random redwire/relays/electrical tape. not sure why they needed 15 miles of wire to run a fan relay and a relay for the hot side of the coil. especailly when the coil is litterally 4" away from the distro block. Not to mention the entire harness being wrapped in multiple layers of electrical tape.

gonna have to reloom everything and clean up the previous owners handy work a bit more.
