Sweet thread, I have questions, please school the E30 noob:

    1. So all these sedans and coupes in the US are not factory M Techs, they are regular E30s with the kits installed, correct?

    2. I have an 88, so I could put either the M Tech 1 or 2 kit on my sedan without much fabrication, correct?

    3. Would the M Tech 1 kit be harder to find? Is a sedan M Tech kit harder to find than one for a coupe?

    Thanks

i'll take a swing at this, others please correct me as needed:

        1. correct, with the exception of a) the MT2 convertible, which was in fact offered in the US, and b) genuine MT1 and MT2 cars that have been imported here from overseas.

        2. on your '88, in addition to the MT1 kit, you would need to get euro bumpers to replace your current diving boards (MT2 would go on '89 and later)

        3. MT1 is generally harder to find than MT2, and the sedan kit harder to find than coupe. that said, MT2 isn't exactly easy to find, either. they're basically all difficult (and expensive) to find

2 - you can make mtech I work, but it looks goofy with the big tails so I suggest you avoid this.

3 - yes. there is also no difference between sedan and coupe mtech I. there is early/late, which is mainly different in the sideskirts having upturned ends or being straight. there are also two variants of the rear valence, one for straight exhaust and the other for slant.

I always thought the straight skirts were four door and the side skirts that come up the arches were two door. Now that I think about it though, did they even put MT1 kits on four doors from factory?

              yup

the straight/upturned is a production year difference iirc

Could be lachs, could be sterling. Pics are too bad to tell.

                      Edit: Ad says Lachs.

That is the non-MTechnic piece. M-Tech cap is 51121953712 and NLA I think.
