    Alpine 318is / RIP 325ix

So back in Febuary I got hit pretty good by a clueless driver in the rear quarter panel while driving my IX.
Quick Photo of carnage, couple more photos here http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=239852

...Anyways, many weeks later and still dealing with insurance and
no luck finding a decent e30 out there I decided to post a WTB on craigslist.
Got bunch of replys of "modified" or "messed" up e30's but, I just wanted a blank slate.

Then I got a response for an alpine 318is, completely stock and in great condition,
exactly what I was looking for! Only negative was that it was 5+ hours away.
Many emails later and pictures I decided to take the gamble and take the drive out there.

What better way to test the car then take a 300+ mile trip back!
It was all worth it! Love the car and its in great condition. Interior definately sold me too.

And now for some photos of both the buildup and breakdown of the two cars

..And now for some interior shots! :D

Previous owner had drilled holes into the black door cards for cup holders..
I just took the houndstooth from the IX and put it in. I like it alot!

Not a big fan of the deck I have in there now. Previous owner had a
sirius satellite radio thing hooked up.
Need to get a new wheel or use my old mtech 1 wheel from the IX but
for now this will do. Swapped out the old knob for the ZHP :)

Need to fix this tear. Any suggestions?

Now on to a quick engine shot..

Whats the easiest way to get rid of that crud?

Have many things planned for this car. I wanna swap the valence from
my IX to the 318 because it isnt terribly rock chipped and has IS lip.
I also wanna swap my euro trim from the IX and the Smileys.
Oh and take the rear popout windows. Lots of things I can't remember
    right now.

For suspension, the previous owner had just refreshed it with OEM stuff.
I think I'll ride with them for awhile until I do further research into my options.

Some goodies I'm gonna use from the IX

I wanna use the rearview mirror with lights, and the 13obc if it can work with the 318

    ... More updates to come!

The IX will be parted eventually after I take what I need! Not sure when that will be

Sorry to hear about the ix but congrats on the 318. I love alpines.

That cluster on the ix is sexy!

Goddamn, that is such a clean car! That cosmoline shit is really hard to get rid of. Use some degreaser and a scrub brush.

As far as the 13 button goes, you can use everything from the iX, but you will get inaccurate values for range/mileage, as the coding plug in the back of the OBC is meant for a 6 cylinder car (which this obviously is not.) The proper coding plug is like $100 or so. Most just go with the Euro analog clock.

You can use the map light mirror too. There supposedly is a plug above that visor panel to plug that light right in without having to cut/splice any wires, but I never found one on my 325 and since the 318's were pretty stripped, it may not have it either. The easiest solution to that problem is to splice it into the check panel wires (since you have a manual crank sunroof, you can't go off those wires.)

Glad to see you're back in an E30 and let me know if you'll sell me that iX as a whole :)

        Thanks Austin,

When I have time I'll probably investigate those electrical items more in depth.

As for the car, I'll pm you if I decide to get rid of it as a whole.
But, I think parting it out makes more sense for me right now.

Word. No worries. Let me know if you do. Probably more work then it's worth to save that car, but I'd give it my best!

The ix definitely looks fixable to me.

Sweet pic up with the 318is!

It would be a big undertaking, wheel casing is crushed, frame damage.
Would need to cut and weld another IX panel would be my guess.
Just dont have time or space to do so right now :/

For insurance purposes I got a quote at one place on damage repair and it was like $3500+

your new car is so much better.

I do like the old steering wheel better than the air bag wheel though. If that is legal where you are.

pull out the fenders and hood from your old one and set them aside.

Very nice, that 318 is so clean. And I would not bother saving that car. iX or not, that is an expensive fix to do it right. I recently had an iX that was hit even harder in the side, and I got a ton of hate for parting it out. Do people really want to buy and drive cars that have had the entire front quarter including floor pan and firewall replaced? This isn't Pro-3 ;)

                          Car in question

that was a 4-door though.. as much as I like my 4-door, they aren't worth as much or desireable as a 2-door ix. plus most were automatics.

I say store the ix somewhere until you have the means to fix it. it looked super clean - but so does your new car. :D

in all honestly, $3500 isn't too bad for a complete repair. Man, I got ripped off when I had my car in the body shop..
