A few pics of the race car

    Black #6

theres a few for ya, car runs in ITS as a m42, that will probably change shortly to ITA, aka the class full of miatas and small hondas. I dont see how they expect us to compete with e36 325's, our only advantage is weighing 200lbs less than the m20 e30's and i believe its something to the affect of 250-300 less than the e36's... still the underdog for sure...

This was the cars second race out...

    ::Car specs::

Custom Roll Cage built in house at are fab shop

    Ground Control Coilovers
    GC Camber Plates
    Delrin Control Arm bushings
    Solid Rear Sub frame
    Delrin Rear trailing arm bushings
    Koni custom valved shocks
    GC rear shock mounts
    Custom Strut bar
New Hawk formula (slips my mind... essentially blues but no non-costic formula)
    Stainless lines
    Custom 4.10 Rear (need a 4.27 stat)
    Kumho v710's

    Momo Start seat
    Momo mod 78 wheel

The motor was raced twice as we recieved it with the car (130,000miles) overheated in second race from a head gasket failure. Motor is being disassmbled and built to IT specs this winter... Looking to see what can be done with the old m42...

I like I like !!! That's an interesting headgasket failure time though
Feel free to update us with closeups of the cage and suspension when you can;)

I thought maybe the profile gasket, however i have a nice milky coolant... Im used to m20's... haven't done anything with an m42 yet. But we want to stick with the motor as its just different, and would like to find a way to extract power from it. Haven't had much time to start diving in... truthfully after the build all summer Im a little hesitant to get into it all again... Need a bit of a break

Kind of odd too, I bought the gc plates, and really Im only running about 1.5-2.0 degrees of camber... And I need to dial out a shitload in the rear... We are only using the inside of the tire... temps were way off the map at the last race on the tires

          Cracked head perhaps?
I hear you on the subtle/mild lack of motivation. Plust the season is damn near over if not already. If you do get a new head, work that sucker and let her rip!

It seems the old design thermostat seems to go at about that milage. My first 318 was in the process of being repaired from being overheated at around 127k. My current 318 would never get warm a few days after i bought it becaue of the thermostat. it had about 132000

                  Snowman,

Props to you for club racing the 318is up against the 6-cyl's. What does your class allow to be done to the motor, internally? Can you run a 4.27 or 4.45 rear?

We are allowed... .040 overbore... cant raise comp. more than 1/2 point... not much really, allowed to balance and blueprint... allowed to balance flywheel clutch assembly, but only allowed to remove as much material as neccassary to balance, like wise with the bottom end... Stock cams... stock valve train, port matching dont think we are allowed to change anything past 1" into the head or manifolds...

Interested in a dry sump setup... gttecknic has the pan... however looks like we'd need to mount her upright, (aka not legal) however our motor mounts are going to be fabbed up about an inch shorter... mistake right? we can do anything to the ecu as long as its in the stock box, and uses stock sensors/connections... (some guys go as far as motec)

In the process of looking for a 4.27 we locked our 4.10, worked fine however just not enough coming out of the corners, especially at the shorter track that pretty much the entire season is centered around... 4.45 rear would probably fuck us, we are just short of rapping out 4th on the main straight now, the 4.27 would probably get us to redline a little shy of the braking zone (faster to get to a maintanable speed then to accelerate to a speed throughout... to an extent)

Was looking at a solid lifter setup but probably over kill like the dry sump

Probably just build an overboar balanced and blueprinted snuffed up motor with a hot cam setup... and try and do some aggressive chip tuning

for the flywheel you could try to use the m20 flywheel? sure it didnt come stock on your car, but no one would know even if they looked at it. Its like half the weight of the m42 one.

I do believe that would be construed as 'cheating' in most series nick
