The 318is was referred to as the Poor Man's M3 back in the day by automotive journalists. I consider it a great car!

I do plan on upgrading the engine but nothing crazy. This m42 only has 102,000 miles.

Sold the M3 for a down payment on a house was absolutely the right thing to do. Good luck with your M42. I thought it was called the "Baby M3". That's what i call mine.

Funny the differences between here and Germany. Most all the E30s I saw there were slick-tops. stupid BMW NA has to keep it a luxury brand here in the states. ;) M42 is a poor man's M3, lol, by the time mine is done it will be a little displacement, hydro lifters, and some bodywork shy of the real thing. Building it was more fun than just buying an E30 M3 outright and babying it anyways :)
