Just picked up my first bimmer for $750.

Just picked this '89 325i up for $750, I'm super excited. No rust, some minor cosmetic issues (cracked plastics, small dents), needs new paint. I have to get an oil pan for it as it's pan was scavenged for another e30 a few hours before I picked it up, and I am also trying to get a drivers side low beam as mine is shattered, altogether I think i got a good deal, what do you guys think?

Up where the oil pan belongs? Or the car in general? I've taken the upmost care to protect the area around the pan.

your'e sure it needs new paint?
mine looks like the world took a dump on it and nothing seems to get it looking ok. i used meguiers 205 polish on it and it made it WORLDS better. i would try that first.

this guy used 3m products and got as good, if not better results than me

It doesn't need new paint I suppose, however the clear coat has all but dissapeared, and whatever's left is peeling and flaking, you can kind of tell in one of the pics, the rear half of the drivers side, starting from the end of the door back, has ok clear coat, however, as you move to the front and up the rear pillar you can see where it appears to be faded in comparison to the back half. The paints not necessary and it probably wont happen for a little while, but it's just on my list of things to do.

          **edit**
Just read that thread you posted, I'm amazed. I'm definitely going to check this out and buy myself some proper equipment and materials to try and get some similar results to that guys thread. Thanks for the tip.

i was under the impression that red didn't have a clear coat but just faded to hell over time. i can assure you that my hood paint was as bad as any spot on your car other than bumpers. it cleaned up seriously good with the meguiers 205. i used a pad and just my hand to get good results. i'm sure you could get better results with a power tool, i have one and might try. i also put a nice wax on after and that helped even more to get a deep color out of it. good luck and post some before and after pics if it works.

Brillantrot doesn't have clear coat, Zinno does.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

Nice score for the price. BTW, that paint will come back to life pretty easily. Here's mine when I was buffing it.

Mines zinno, so says the tag in my engine compartment anyhow. I just did some waxing but I'm headed to work now so I'll post some pictures later tonight. Results were pretty good taking into account what I had to work with.
