A few updates and pics. This car has been keeping me busy!

After getting it home and driving occasionally for a week or so, I decided to replace the transmission fluid because the gearbox was pretty noisy. When I went to drain the fluid, there was maybe 1.5 - 2 cups (!!!!) in there, and it was completely filled with garbage. I filled with some fresh Redline and hoped for the best, but the tranny was toast.

Ordered a new trans from Bav Auto Recycling and pulled the old one out while waiting for it to arrive. Once the driveshaft was out it was apparent that the universal joint was also toast, having spat bearings all over the exhaust heat shield. Whoever had this car before me thoroughly thrashed the drivetrain. Luckily, an inspection of the diff fluid was fine.

So ordered a remanufactured driveshaft and CSB as well, got it all installed and the car is now running great.

Lesson learned, a thorough pre-purchase inspection should never be skipped no matter how much you want the car.

All in all, I'm still really happy with my purchase but wish I had spent about $1000 less than I did, but oh well. Live and learn as they say.

Now I'm just planning to enjoy it through the rest of the summer / fall. Over the winter will probably work on a few minor cosmetic items.
