Had a rather interesting weekend at the garage.
We've had this 85 burgundrot 325 sitting in front of my garage since, god, must have been August - interior and glass, front end and tails were all gone, but the drivetrain (rebuilt tranny) and rear end (2.79 LSD). I just couldn't bring myself to junk the car with that stuff in there, but couldn't bring myself to take the stuff out either ;)
This weekend, I had a couple buddies up helping me clean the garage up, and they asked what needed to be done to get that car out. I told them what I needed, and that if we got it all out, they could flip the car over. For some reason, offering them a chance at destruction made them very eager workers :)
We took the wheels and front suspension components off, and then flipped the car over using my jeep and a tow rope. Went over quite easily :) Once over, I had them take a sawzall to the front subframe, and we disconnected the driveshaft and motor mounts, and let the engine and tranny fall down "out" of the car. We then cut off anything attached, and cut out the front radiator support. I hooked the jeep to the tranny bracket and pulled the engine/tranny combo out the front of the car.
Then we sliced off the rear subframe and lifted it out in one piece.
Yesterday we flipped the car right side up, piled any junk parts into it, cut out the A and B pillars, and forced the roof down to keep the junk inside.
Needless to say, it was easy, cheap/free to get the parts out this way, and a shitload more fun than doing it the "regular" way :)
You'll also see why the car was junk in the pics - beyond salvagable in the rust department IMO.
Here's some pics...I'll try to snap some of the car right side up, but the salvage yard may have already snagged it...
