^^^ Never understood why people do this... Fill it with aluminum. Welding promotes way to much distortion. Read at the bottom.
AndWelding a diff in my opinion is just asking for trouble .... lets take a precision cast steel component and cover it with splatter distort it and generally destroy any hope it has of being a precision item anymore. I have seen welded diffs with 015" lash on one side of the crown wheel and 002" on the other!! .... how long do you think that will last.
I have done it using an old blowing vacuum a pot and some nice BBQ coal and an old vacuum that blows. I have a little pot furnace now and I use smashed up pistons for the alloy.Comment

If someone is welding a diff, I really don't think they give a flying f*ck about splatter. Also, I completely covered the main gear with leather and coated everything but the spider gears with antisplatter.
Anyone who is interested in a 100% locked diff isnt too concerned about precision hahaComment
