I can't imagine picking an M3 up :/ Or driving one without constantly being afraid of someone hurting it.

I remember when I picked my regular old 325i up. I can't imagine what I'm going to do when I pick my m3 up.

Wow, but it looks mostly like surface rust... Most likely picked up in Illinois. Buy the POR-15 touch up kit @$30 do as thorough an undercarriage cleaning as possible, and shoot it with the POR-15.

You can ditch the fuel accumulator. You should look into a Bosch -044 fuel pump @$200 (and Porsche banjo fittings @$17) exceeds factory pump pressure and cheaper... just make sure its made in the Czech Republic not Chinese knock off.

Yeah the M20 may seem faster because of its torque but I traded my 325is + for my M and we lined them up, and the M won in the 1/4 and mile runs we did... by a couple car lengths in the 1/4, more in the mile. I even raced it with my current compression 8.8:1 and it was close but I still won ;)

I just got my mtech2 running today and it's way smoother than my M3 but I'd say now having my M3 for a few months that the M20 is way slower on the freeway. in a drag below 60mph i'd bet the M20 wins but the S14 is way way faster 60mph+ and barry is very right. my S14 needs a chip, needs the valves done, hedgasket and exhaust.
the S14 has to be above 4k-rpm. it's a race engine, not a commute in traffic car.

I got the same impression from another post. I will say that these old M engines are finicky and need to be maintained especially with the S14's buzzy nature. Valve adjustment is critical and there are so many things that affect performance. On my silver car, I once dyno'd an embarrassing 140HP or so at the wheels after I installed cams/headers. During my Alpha N setup, I found I wasn't getting full throttle. What had happened was the throttle cable had stretched. I was only getting about 60% throttle. My point is, you really have to know the S14 to keep it at it's full potential. I'd bet that a lot of them aren't and I feel people are quick to blame the S14. A chip in an S14 makes about the same difference as a chip in an ETA. In other words, it's a huge difference. There's no way an M20B25 would keep up with a properly tuned S14. The S14 actually has more peak torque as well, it's just that you have to keep the RPM's in a certain range to take advantage of it. Someone coming from a 325i wouldn't understand that nearly as quick as a 318i M42 guy would.

why would he sell the M3 when he just got it? that's the reason he is selling the Mtech

Don't procrastinate on the adjustment unless you want to refresh or buy another head... There was a Volvo shim kit on amazon.com once you get the head sorted and a few upgrades like CF airbox you'll have M20 amnesia... I would give my 325is a head start stock vs stock.
