Well, I understand how you feel, I have been in that same situation but in my case the guy that hit me could not flee as his car was totalled along with mine.

Chasing after the person would be the first thing that would come to my mind as well but I probably would not have since I have much more to lose than my car, I have a family and 2 young girls, the E30 can be replaced.

I believe you did the right thing and not engaged in a pursuit. I'm even more glad to know that you are ok since you wrote us to tell us about your horrible day.

Do you have personal injury protection (PIP) on your insurance?
If so you can file that and get the check from $2500-5000 and thta should be enough to cover any neck sprains and e30 swap parts.
Call up your insurance and if you under it with your parents or such, if one of them have PIP then you should be covered
