    new member, new owner

just wanted to post up and introduce myself. yes i'm a new member and no i'm not a spammer or a scammer... lol

just picked up an 88 325e.

car was cheap for the amount of parts it has, plus it has an M52 OBD1 swap already...

car is to replace my DD vw rabbit truck in the background - it was KIA when a driver pulled across the highway and we hit at 70mph.

there is a '69 2002 in the background as well - current ongoing project.

Is the reason it has diving board bumper with late model rear valance because its a 88 and bmw mixed up early with late model for that year? Sorry for the dumb question but I'm new to E30, only owned them for 6 months or so.

Yep 88s are the transition model year. Late model fenders, valences and tail lights but early style diving boards n trim.

Good looking car. The m52 has a bit more kick than the m20b27

yup - got the email and purchased the wheel. thanks.

and yes - 88 was the bastard year where it is the combination of both. it already has a plastic Brytn front bumper, but the diving board rear. plastic as been sourced for the rear and will be installed soon...

car already has ground controls, but just ordered a set of konis and will be doing all new bushings and control arms as well, with stainless brake lines while i have everything apart.

also since it is an "eta" car, it has the 2.73-ish open diff. plan on swapping this out for at least a 3.73 LSD, maybe a 4.10. still debating, as i don't want crap gas mileage on the highway...

plus i'll be cleaning up the interior and buffing the exterior... looks like it's been a while for both.

i do nasa racing, so i am familiar with the capability of these cars but it will be mostly a DD or HPDE car - no spec E30 yet... especially with this engine.

Nice find! I had a rabbit myself and I was rear ended which resulted in a 2 weeks stay at the haspital. Glad you are ok and with a nice e30...

yes - i teach high school automotive. i also have a side business building engines and modifying cars - mainly vw, honda and bmw.

on the lift is a 66 galaxie ranch wagon that i let the kids practice drum brakes on, as it is 4 wheel drum.

shop project is a 69 2002 that we have totally stripped and is getting a full resto-mod.

and then there is the new e30 - going to get a full suspension refresh when we're done with thanksgiving break...
