Hey guys, signed up a year ago but finally got an E30
after about 8 years of wanting and pining I finally got an E30. I have been looking for one for over 12 months, I kept finding not many for sale in the condition/era/spec that I wanted and the cars that were available I just didn't want to settle for just for the sake of getting an E30. Ive found it to be quite competitive just to go look at these things.
So I got something that checked 99% of the boxes.. the other 1% missing is because its an auto.. but meh. That will change!
1989 E30 325i
- Sports wheel
- BBS rims if im not mistaken
- 300K kms
- Leather interior
- Electric sunroof
- Power Windows/mirrors
- Champagne spec
- Very strong LSD
Car looked like its never received a detail in a decade when I went to look at it, however mechanically it drives very well, pulls up hard without shuddering, doesn't miss a beat. Suspension is great, Sunroof works very well, as do the power windows, the windows go up and down like they are new, so quiet. No window switches are busted, door trims and carpet are in amazing condition ive found, even came with the original mats, which took a lot of cleaning but they came up!
Its been babied around, the pedal wouldn't push very far, like it was stuck. Pushed it harder and became unstuck and has been fine since, guess that throttle body hasn't opened up in a while! Probably hadn't seen the kickdown cable in a while id say.
Problems
- Front seats are rooooted
- Dimmer switch doesn't work, so I have very dim dash lights
- Temp gauge doesn't seem very accurate
- Dirty! or at least was.
- Column squeeks when turning the wheel
- Rear spoiler needs painting as the paints cracking
- Windscreen is a bit sandblasted and has scrape marks from people not
changing their wipers in time.
Heres some pics, Its taken 16 hours to get it this clean, however I haven't even started on the boot, door jams or engine bay. let alone removing the seats so I can scrub back the carpet so its all nice and stain free.
How I got it
after a decent wash and masking up for machine polishing
Interior carpet clean
Clean!
Door jams all clean
Before-
After-
Plans for now: For now just keep tiding it up, do lots of maintenance on it so I know its not going to catch me out on the side of the road. Putting in some Alpine R's in the next couple of weeks so its got some decent sound,
M-tech2 rear spoiler and slam it on some BBS mesh copies in Hitler offset. New seats are a must too...
Plans after my house is built: Begin to build up an engine for it, I really had my heart set on an RB30/25 head combo with a T04z, but thinking its going to be much easier to go with a 1J or 2J option... Just because the brake boosters not going to have issues of being in the way of a 4" dump pipe ;), either way I want to crack at least 500hp in this thing. Just got to work something out with the diff so it doesn't shatter
I must of cleaned it up pretty good, I had someone see my car, turn round and follow me home and offered to buy it off me in my driveway, said he has been looking for a 325 in this condition for ages.. NO DEAL.
