Nice mtech cabrio!!
Does it need or have the "BAR" tag on the drivers door jamb? These cars never came with a turbo. Did you get a current smog certificate with the car? "current" means within the last 90 days. It has no CA plates & shows a "temp 12" sticker in the rear window, which means some DMV action is required before Jan. Under CA law, it now states that the seller must provide the buyer with a current certificate. You do have recourse with him if he didn't provide it. The only reason I ask is the turbo may have presented a problem to the lame-brain CA referee & they might have some "failed smog" history in their Sacto. computer on this car.
Having an M3, you may know what kind of a "red tape" pit this can be!!
I hope it is a clean (smog inspection) car for your sake, no one needs to be tied-up in the endless red tape of the DMV. Ask me how I know..........[IComment

Well, I went to the AAA today and they couldn't help me because the car was an out-of-state lean sale back in '99. The PO I bought it from didn't finish the paperwork to get it registered so I have to take time off of work tomorrow and go to the DMV to sort it all out. I am a Smog Tech here in Cali, so I know how this all works. He did provide me with a smog and it is less than 90 days old so thats no worry right now. There is no BAR labels as the turbo setup is not CARB approved by any means. I will hopefully get it sorted out tomorrow and get this thing taken care of.Originally posted by cactusjacks1Nice mtech cabrio!!

On a lighter note, the only thing that went well for me today was the sale of my E36. It is officially sold and paid for. The buyer picked it up today from me at work so that is one less car I have to deal with right now. Looks like my M3 on 19's will be my daily driver for a few weeks until I get the cabby sorted enough to daily drive it.'88 M3.2 S54 Lachssilber/Black

Congrats on selling your E36!
Did the PO give you a signed title & the lien sale papers? I gather the car was never in his name - so he pulled a "pass thru" on a out of state car.
In the eyes of the DMV it is going to look like you bought the car out of state. I really hope you have a signed title - otherwise your going to have to recreate a paper trail (with sig's of PO or the person who did the lien sale) showing the car ended up yours. It can be a hassle but don't let the DMV get you down - it's always the case that at 2 different windows, you will get two different answers from them - smile - lot's of yes mam's - they LOVE to be in control - but in the end, you have a Mtech cabrio!!
Good Luck!
