new guy from france with alpinweiss 318is

    Hi everyone!

Don't know if I'm posting in the good section

I've been looking treads on this forum for a while, and now it's time to present you my e30

I'm not from England, USA or others English speaking country. I'm just a young French so I hope you have no difficulties to understand me

Let's speak a little of my life. I'm 24 years old, I live in Clermont ferrand, does that mean something to you? and what about if i tell you it's the city where a well-known tire manufacturer have his head office, i want to say Michelin as a lot of you may have find out :nice:
I actually work for them as a mechanical technician since 2010

I own since February a 318is E30 and little by little i'm turning it into a "street race car" by this i mean, doing modifications and improvement to make it more efficient and fun to drive, staying street legal, and it's pretty hard in France because of the rules being very restrictive.

I don't spend a lot of money on the car, so i'am focusing on the mechanic side for the moment and later on i'll do the esthetic part.

so here is the car when i first see it... don't really good looking

then some time before, the exterior haven't change a lot but i have done some mechanical work and the car was running great

and some pictures taken yesterday with a friend's 316 M10

a little try with a picture to see how it looks, not a specialist, not the sweetest e30 but i'ts mine and i like it

    here some other pics

the 316 that will soon be with Mtech1 front bumper and sideskirts

and here with a friend 316i M42 swapped, sadly i had lost my front bumper during the travel  i had luck there is no damage

So the car as it sit now have:
    - 15" Mim wheels that i need to finish with 205/50 R15 michelin PE2
    - bilstein B8 with lowering springs
    - polybushes with M3 wishbones bushes
    - interior stripped out
    - 2 sparco seat
    - Mtech2 fiberglass front and rear bumper
    - E36 steering rack
    - front strut hartge style
    - 3.73 LSD
    - fiberglass hood
    - electric fan

and what i'm planning to do:
    - E36 gearbox with 3.45 LSD ans short shift
    - original spoiler
    - replace stock rear silencer
    - find 15" wheels and buy 4 federal 595RS-R for track use
    - find a second M42 to build a more powerful engine, looking for 170, 180 hp with S50b30 (euro) pistons or M44 crank and S50b32 (euro) pistons.

Feel free to give your opinion ;-)

    See you

I was already at Michelin in Clermont Ferrand with my Dad (He's Truckdriver) 12 or 14 years ago.

      they're gone cuz I don't like them

seriously i prefer white above yellow, especially on a white later style E30, but if i change them is also because they where not in good condition and i found for cheap a set of white ones ;)

So you know a little clermont ferrand it's a nice place, even if i'm not from there, but more from the south of france. :p

As for the hood, it's not ugly, it's not exactly good looking too, with a lot of cracks and the adjustment with the rest of the car is horrible :letitout:
but i have it for free so is a good weight saving mod for the moment until i try to make my own fiberglass hood

There was a big cathedral I remember, like the cathedral in Cologne (Kölner Dom).
However... France has many beautiful places, specially the South.

I'm looking for those original yellow Hella headlights like the 316.

Welcome aboard! Interesting hood you got there...I kinda like it. Looks as if a V8 should be there.

            yeah you remember right.
don't know if in germany you have yellow headlights, if you don't, they can be find in france quite easily at the moment with or without work to do on it to make them look good, only thing is to ship them to germany.
If you don't find let me know i will look for you

And for the hood I "only" have a Stock M42 for the moment:p

              hi guys.

Here are some update with my car, if anyone have interest for it ;D

car have been disabled in august 2017 and didn't had a chance to properly work on it since july 2019.

first things first. After reassembling it (intake, exhaust, auxiliaries, clutch gearbox...) engine is back in the car

The front brake setup. 4 pot brembo, 300x24mm disc and 15" wheels.

left the car as i had to go again for work (working away from home.

couple month later I came back and i took care of the inside of it.
              from this

              to this

and outside looking more decent but still far far far away from being clean

the bonus. i managed to finish the car to be able to go test it on the track near my place.

felt so nice to drive it again after all this years.

i left again for work the following day and only came back 3 month later

did a second track day, my brother in law used my little fiesta in the morning.

              now time for upgrades.

working on this engine to have a little more power, will do a post in the build section.

also waiting for a half roll cage to arrive, have to figure out what to do regarding brakes as rear are still stock (just ds2500 pads)

did also some cosmetic to the car to make it look a little prettier

Great to see you've kept it all these years! Keep it up. Looks like the M42 is getting some boost?

                  HI 2mAn.
plan is to keep it N/A sadly france is not "modified car" friendly and in a E30 the turbo is kinda obvious when you open the hood... i'll be far from some people in here with crazy turbo build pushing 300+hp but i don't need that much. if i manage to get close to 180hp at the crank with a freshly rebuilt engine in that 30 years old car and with the handling improvement i'll already be a happy man. anything above that 180hp figure will be bonus.

I made a post in the M42 section as I have so question about my build. it's my first one and even if i red a lot i'm still lacking experience.
