    good stuff.
    my first car was a 77 240d.

    i love these old mercs...

as for the material the seat is made out of, it is not leather. it is vinyl but with a twist, backed by normal fabric which makes it more resiliant, and it doesn't dry as easy as vinyl seats do.

its a special material called naugahyde, its "pleather" for you simple worded folk.

extremely durable stuff, my 77's old interior looks just as mint as your 40 year old interior.

here's a wiki page about the material.

some pics of my old car for reference :D
when i got the e30 to replace it. someone smashed my driver QP, it then stopped running (blown head gasket) so i took a loss on it, cashed the insurance settlement, and sold it to a guy in sac for 400 bucks.

pics of the damage, well you can see it in this pic.

        in its prime:

the day my parents bought it, then surprised me and told me it was my first car:

i have some pics of it being hauled away, but those ones hurt. haha.

just saw this. Will def be following your build I've had my eye out for an old merc too. With basically the same intentions you seem to have: clean it up, air, wheels, and thats about it just a classy cruiser or daily.

Are your headlight housings considered euro spec? Do they have the euro cutoff line? Reason I ask is because the stock us housing without said line make HIDs rather obnoxious.

Did you read the sentence in "**" that's why I put it there because I knew I would get comments about it lol. Not my daily driver.

more parts came in from pelican parts today. got some clips for the trim pieces on grill, new distributer cap (the one on there is like a generic one doesnt fit), new rotor (had some burn marks on old rotor), and the banjo bolt that snapped off in my water pump housing. thank God for easy outs.

Not sure. Now that its running again I'm going to work on lowering it and it needs new tires bad. I do kinda like the patina look. Maybe sand down the rust. If I did go paint. I would go same yellow but white top. Do a 2 tone.

I have a e30 to fund too so I'm not going crazy on this venture. I mean car was 1000 bucks figured I'd cruise to the golf course on Sunday or something hahaha.
