    My E30 drift project

hello every one. i thought id start a thread about the life of my E30 since i might actually get some major work done in the next month or so. i bought a 325e to have as a project/drift car to learn on. i want to hear the feedback from you guys/girls to see what else i should do or look into.

here is the day i got it.

within the next few days i had the whole interior out. there was surface rust in the trunk until i sanded it and painted over the metal. the car was hit from behind at some point, so the trunk doesn't latch and the rear end is dented in a bit. i looked past it since i will most likely crash or hit something while learning to drift.

here is the worst part of rust on the car.

i welded in a new piece (i am learning how to weld during this project so you will see some pretty bad looking welds but they are holding up nice.)

i picked this up from a friend. i will be buying a new master because the one on it now is junk.

here it is mounted in the car.

i picked up a 4.10 rear differential from a local BMW guy out here for 40 bucks. the same day i had my buddy weld it for me.

after the test run i guess you can say i came in too hot :dot:

after i bought a bag of grass seed i installed the lines for the hydraulic brake. when i got under the car and found how bad the brake lines were i decided to redo the back lines. after a day i decided to take out the ABS and just redo everything. so i bought a 25' roll and started working.

i didnt buy and steel braided lines besides the inner rear ones. after i saw how they were set up from the factory, i wasn't even going to try and save them.

after that i tackled into my steering problem. i took the steering column out along with the linkage and found out that one of the U joints was binding up. after getting a used one i drilled out the rivets and replaced them with bolts.

after spending time fixing the my VW i found out i exhausted my bank account (go figure.) so the BMW sat. i found out my friend had a cheap seat sitting in his basement so i snagged that from him and mounted it.

the next week i got an R.J.S. 5 point harness for free too.

my future plans are to put and M50, coilovers, and an e36 steering rack. i am hoping to get it all done next month, but who knows. i will be sure to keep posting on my progress.

so i will be getting an M50 this Friday, i have very high hopes to have the motor in and running by Sunday. My plan of action is to drink a lot of beer and red-bull and just power on through the weekend.

got an update, i bought an M50 from my buddies E30 on friday.

i started pulling my motor from my E30 today.

it was going horrible and then it got even worse. i had the rear end of my car on jack stands and i had the front down trying to break loose a wheel bolt and then the rocking caused my car to roll back and fall off of the stands and one ruptured my gas tank. my stupidity was very great today, because i have no idea where my chocks were. im assuming i moved them because they were in the way or something.

i did however decide today that ill be putting in a fuel cell :P . i did get the motor dropped down today and the only thing left is picking the front of the car up and pulling the motor out.

im glad i went with dropping the subframe. i dont think i couldve done it by myself if i had to lift it out.

I've never dropped a motor from the bottom before.

Will you just grab a bunch of mates to hand lift the front of the car up or what?

i figured i can use a motor lift to lift the front end and i can just pull the motor out. i used a motor cycle jack to lower the motor so ill be able to just wheel it around.

yes, it was pretty scary having to jack the car back up and then 20 minutes later have to go under it again. im taking extra precautions to make sure the car is sturdy now.

Are you going to weld a cage yourself?
                    That M50 should be fun.

well for now i am going with a harness bar. i will not be welding that since im still not the greatest welder. when i decide to go with a cage i will not be welding it in either.

well i finally got my motor to my house. it came yesturday but the box truck we used was too tall for us to lift out with a normal engine jack. we ended up putting it on a car trailer and using a pallet jack to move it in today.

alright i just got done with the gas tank. i decided to try and fix the hole. why not if its out right? i tried to do it sort of right so here it is.

                            here is the damage.

i started by buying a bunch of that quick steel and rubber undercoat. i then used a wire wheel to remove the paint that was around the hole. i then put three layers of that quick steal on and all over the hole.

this is all of the putty stuff i put on. i fully went over board but i dont know if this will actually work and why not.

i then sprayed two cans of rubber undercoat on the whole tank. i obviously cleaned the whole thing in mineral spirits and also wire wheeled the rust on the seams so it wouldnt rust any more.

id say it went very well and that the tank wont leak.
