it was about five o'clock, and i wanted to meet my girl up at cerritos mall. the plan was ; take 710 N : 91 E : 605 S : exit South St. unfortunately, i didnt even make it to the 91. entering the 710 freeway going to the 91, you dont have to change lanes. that same entering lane goes all the way to the 91. therefore, theres nothing to my right except dirt and uncoming island for another entering lane to the freeway. so if, for example, someone drastically cut into my lane, i couldnt just switch the right lane. anyway, as i approach the curve that leads to the 91, a white van parallel to me switches into MY lane as if i wasnt there! ( check your blind spots ) but being that the upcoming curve would meet up with that island, i had no choice but to slam on the brakes hoping i wouldnt meet up with that island. the car skids over the island into the dirt area. apparently, there was a cop already giving someone a ticket behind from where the accident occured. he claims to have seen EVERYTHiNG. although, all he says he saw was my car skidding to the right slamming into another car. according to him, the whole accident was my fault because, "you were too busy paying attention to me that you had to slow down." the officer was mean as fuck being that i'm the 17 yr old minor vs a 40 yr old man, so whos fault is going to be? the MiNOR. he continues to yell at me ( cussin and shit too ) saying this was all my fault, when he didnt even give me a chance to explain that the reason why i slammed my brakes so hard was because someone was basically going to slam into my side because they switched into my lane. but he claims that he saw everything and that he didnt see a car switching into my lane. all he saw WAS me skidding to the side hitting another car. if anything, that van switching into my lane kept going and didnt stop. afterall, that van wasnt touched cuz i braked. i cant remember exactly what happened because i was SO scared and everything happened so fast yenno? i cant even remember exactly HOW i got my whole front end crashed like that. because the van on my left didnt stop. apparently, i hit the van on the right that was entering the freeway. on top of that, the guy i hit BECAUSE of the van on the left, was real mad too. thus, i get blamed for this whole accident AND the cop gives me a ticket. april 18th is my court date, mom has to go with me.
my arguments:
even if i did see you on the side of the freeway giving someone else a ticket, would i really slow down? thinking that he's actually going to let the guy free cuz "i was driving faster"? admitting that, most people DO slow down when they see a cop on the side.. would it be SO necessary for me to slam my brakes so hard that it would create skid marks? i was driving 65mph. there is NO reason for me TO slow down.
and if you claim to have seen the whole thing, until what point did you see the accident? exactly, you only saw me skidding to the right. therefore, you only bothered to look up at what was happening BECAUSE you heard skidding. if you had really seen EVERYTHiNG, you would see the van on my left side completely taking over the lane that im already in.
lastly, claiming to be a police officer for 22 years, you should know to keep the situation calm. you had no reason to yell and cuss at me knowing that it WAS just an accident. he was just yelling cuz he "saw everything" and blames me for it happening. on top of that, he was probably more harsh towards me cuz im the 17 yr old kid that 'caused the accident'. cuz if you think about it, whos fault is it? minor or 50yr old man? yeah...
anyways, i just typed down what i could remember...any questions? suggestions? just post, i'll get back to it.. oh yeah, i included a little diagram of how i remember things happening. hope it gives you an idea. included pictures too of the damage. oh my GOD my dad is gonna get pissed. and yeah man, thankfully i'm fine as is the rest of the people involved in the accident. and knowing my dad, hes not going to want to get the car fixed anymore..let alone think about letting me drive again. i dunno whats going to happen yet... so yeah, RIP baby :(
