    COTM ~Sept 2013~ FrankM E30's S62 BEAST!

As a local to Frank we have been waving at one another for over 4 years. I met him in person after calling about an e30 he had listed on CL in '10. Bought it and been friends ever since. There is no way to better describe Frank then; there is no one else like him. His brain fires in a million different directions, it is a wonder how his builds come out so clean. But when he sets his mind to it, you best believe the end result is perfection.

Proud to see his builds unfold and help along the way. Been a long time coming buddy, you deserve this COTM! One of the most INSANE clean builds.

I purchased the car in December of 2010 as a stock 1989 325is, 69k original miles. At the time, it had some work, rust mainly, that was needed.

So off it went for paint in May 2011. I decided to keep it the same bronzit paint code -039.

I drove the car for 50 miles before deciding to tear it down and transplant my 4.0L engine from my owned ‘95 540i. Teardown started in Dec 2012.

Then in Jan 2012, work on the E30 has started...

    Bay ready for final install.

The final product as in May 2012.

    Some general Specs:
    -‘95 M60B40 122k Miles
    -6 Speed Transmission
    -Custom Driveshaft
    -3.15 LSD
    -Cruise Control
    -AC works!
    -UUC Short Shift Kit
    -SPAL puller and pusher fans
    -UUC E39 Lightweight Flywheel/Clutch
    -E30M3 Springs
    -Bilstein HD’s
    -AZEV A - 16x7.5 ET25
    -BFGoodrich KDW 225/45/16 Square
    -300mm.de big brakes 312/294 with E34 540i calipers
-Exhaust: 2.5” headers to Dual 2.25”, X Pipe, resonators, Dual in/out Magnaflow Muffler

The project ended in May 2012. Entire swap took no more than 4 months...

Shortly after in January 2013, I also bought a new set of wheels/tires. I have a thing for the classic style, while keeping a nice 17” rim size. I ended up getting the Style 5’s 17x8 BBS ET20. I spaced them out with 10mm up front and 12mm in the back. This is the last couple pics before I did the most recent tear down.

In May 2013, I decided to break it down and rebuild with the S62 Engine from the E39 M5. I found a great donor from a t-boned M5. 94k miles, excellent shape.

After selling my 335i M30 Convertible in April 2012, I took some of that money and started this new project: The E30 350i. The S62B50 engine has 394hp and is a monster! As I tore down the M60 swap, I kept a lot of those parts, but brought the rear end down a bit to 2.93. On to the build pics. Project started May 2013.
