Hey chondamx, how's your turbo build coming along?

That little G240 looks cute behind that tank of an engine--me limey! Also, cross hatching looks muy bueno. How deep are those score marks at the top of the cylinder? Maybe fill them in with some JB weld?

Just to ask - why not cut the firewall and fab it to fit around the motor instead of just beating on it? I'm asking simply because I have never seen anyone approach this swap with any other thoughts besides "just beat it in." Don't get me wrong, I like what you're doing (and considered it myself) but just thought I would ask.

Then you may be able to. I had to take IIRC I took like 2 inches out of it.

Right. My trans is a g240 btw. It a good bit shorter than a 265. I'm hoping that I can get away with a unmodified combo driveshaft or like chondamx said, an m20 g260 one.

mines pretty level. which drive shaft are you going with? if you go with an 87 325e driveshaft I had to shorten mine and so have a few other people i know. from the pics i see your gonna need to hit the trans tunnel and the firewall but just a little on the trans so the top bolt goes in the tunnel.

Ok, I'll slap it around with my mini sledge tonight. How much are your motors tilted (on completed swaps)? I'm concerned with tweaking the guibo if I have it slanted too far down in the back.

Lol it will be more then a couple. I had to litterly beat the shit out of my fire wall with a 5 pound sledge. A good 15-20 blows and the motor finally made it to the mounts. The head on the b34 had a rear coolant pipe on the head since that's there you gotta hit the firewall a lot right there. It's funny the guide says trans tunnel but I barley touched my trans tunnel. By the way I'm using QBANG brackets on revshift revshift motor mounts in the furthest back position.

I have an e30 radiator. Figured I'd start with that.

So I'll have to "clearance" the tunnel a bit. I thought a couple of well placed blows would be useful.

I'm thinking you're definitely going to have to massage that firewall a little bit. I'd be terrified to have the crank that close to the radiator.

I'm still waiting on the mounts I ordered for my m30 swap, so I don't know exactly how it will for, but I expect I'll have to hammer out space for the rear coolant pipe at the very least.

What radiator do you plan on running?

So I thought that while I wait for gaskets, I should go ahead and test fit some things. So I slapped the oil pan on and strapped that b34 up. Then I lifted it off of the stand and added a transmission. Then I rolled this little feller over to the patiently awaiting victim.

I gotta say, not having the core support in the way makes worlds o difference.

    Rack clearance.

So, did anyone know this is gonna be sort a tight fit? jk lol smiley face.

I've got it in there at 1 degree steeper forward to aft than the angle of the m20 in my vert. So the rear of the motor is 1 degree lower than on the m20 car. Does that seem within acceptable limits?

Also, is it customary for the crank pulleys to be about a millimeter from the radiator?

Thanks fellers. That's it for today.

I just shot a quick email to FCP about adding the pump chain to the order I placed last night. Not 10 minutes later I get an invoice with the parts I ordered plus the pump chain added. I'm rather impressed with FCP Euro. At this point, I highly recommend them (no affiliation).

Oh yeah, also, the oil pump sprocket from the newer e34 oil pump is smaller than the one from the old 735i. That means the e34 pump spins more per revolution (faster) giving more oil volume (and pressure?). So I'm gonna order a oil pump chain off of the e34 and give myself a bit more piece of mind there. It's 1 link shorter.

I've never ordered from FCP Euro before, but their prices just seem incredibly fair, if not really good. I got that whole lot of gaskets and seals for $119 shipped. That's pretty much a full gasket set. I ordered the kitted bottom gasket set and individual top end stuff. Had I ordered the kitted top it would have been $150 total (including the bottom kit), and it came with valve stem seals and absolutely every gasket and seal for the motor. I mean, the head gasket was just $21 on its own. It is a Reinz, but foreals, that's fuckin' cheap.
