See how its glossy? That comes from having a fuckload (that's an industry term, write that down) of clear-coat sprayed on top of it to seal it (yes, even though it adds weight and limits the thermal efficiency of the CF).

The clear coat seals the weave and holds it together in an accident. Yep, it'll crack, but it won't shatter ;)

I've worked with plenty of carbon fibre, what I posted comes from seeing it in crashes at race tracks as well as street application stuff (with the clear coat) undergoing ADR approval.
