Beatrixe the daily driven 89 M3

Well boys, here we go. Time for a build thread on the old girl.
The overall goal for the car will be to bring it back to a "clean state" using primarily OEM parts on the interior.
The exterior will receive spot touch up but not likely a full respray.

For the last 5 years it has been his daily driver for my friend and it does show. Flapjack hair is throughout the vehicle and there are some less than desirable bits here and there. Overall, the car is still in great shape and it will make a fantastic base to build off of.

First thing was to address the interior. I am starting with the following.
    One Recaro SRD
    One Cloth passenger sport seat
Tan rear bench seat (non M)
    No deck lid.
    Cloth front door panels
    Leather rear door panels.

I am going to convert it to a full black leather interior. Not sure what I will do in terms of front seats (OEM vs Evo Recaros). Rear will be a E30 M3 seat.

In buying a recent flip car I was able to snatch the black leather front door panels out of in and it cleaned up the interior up a bunch! Amazing how such a small thing changed it around.

Next up was a small order from the guys over at Garagistic. I can not say enough good stuff about these guys. Shipping was within hours of my order and all of my items arrived in individual bags. If you have a E30 I highly suggest you check them out. I got a new OEM key (with light), derlin shift bushings, odometer gears, and shifter clip.

I decided that the engine bay was filthy enough and needed some loving. I got out the washer and soaked the old S14. Well, turns out S14s hate water. It killed my plugs and wires. No big deal right? FALSE. In order to swap plugs you need a thin wall 18mm socket, something that BMW no longer makes and turner sells for $88 dollars. There was no way I was going to pay almost $90 bucks for a socket so I decided to get creative. I went and bought a standard 18mm spark plug socket and found a friend who had access to a lathe. BOOM, thin wall socket.

    Then new plug wires.

That gets me up to present day. I have another small package arriving today that I am VERY excited about, I will post pics later.
Also, expect a large part order Saturday morning assuming the buyer comes through on the supra friday night.

I ordered new shifter bushings that were cheap AF. Well, not the best fitment. Actually have about a penny's width of play. At 11pm no shops are open which mean I need to get creative again. Need a spacer. One penny wide. Spacer. Penny width. BOOM PENNY WASHER!

        Installed and tight!

Next was throwing in a new glove box handle! Woohoo lol

Oh oh and my smiles came!

A few goodies came today but boy I had no idea what I was in for in terms of the radio situation. It is horrifying the state of the harness. I will have to buy a amp and amp the door speakers/rear deck. No way in hell will I be able to make the stock radio harness work.

          YUCK!

            bad news.
the radio is far worse than I originally expected. I am going to have to run an external amp for the speakers if I want even decent sound out of the car.

            Starting over... again
All new speakers (the 5.25 infinitys went into the jeep)

Ordered two sets of kenwood 5.25 cheap-o speakers and a kenwood 4 channel amp.
should have some sound by the middle of next week

Turner motorsports package arrived today. Nothing exciting. Just a VC gasket.[/QUOTE]

I got charged cost of a rear u-joint with free install. I actually gave him a $20.
+1 for walker driveline, seriously amazing customer service!

I finished the wiring and installed the Kenwood out of the Jeep today. I am pretty happy with the results. It isn't too blingy of a HU.

              got everything in!
going to drop off the rear deck lid today and hopefully have it back by the weekend so I can finish up the install on the speakers.

I am running a kenwood amp to power it all. Overall couldn't be happier for a sub $200 dollar system.

I painted the rear deck lid enclosures and installed the new speakers today. They were the last piece of nasty tan in the M3! WOOHOO!

finally had my new shift boot and e-brake boot arrive! took like a month but they are here. Pretty decent quality for the price, I am pleased.

Finished the rear parcel shelf today. Man that old thing was GROSS! It is nice to have hooked up my freshly painted speaker surrounds and finish the audio on her.

                  BEFORE

                  AFTER

Notice the speaker enclosures were originally tan and gross too!

I am trying to decide if I want to do a spot repaint or the whole damn thing. It is a huge difference in price and I am just not sure. AHHH

finished the headlight wiring tonight! I need one more clip and then I can finish up the install! :D

Knocked out the VC gasket and was going to respray my VC. After stripping the paint I kinda liked the way it looked raw so I am just going to rock that until I decide differently.

There ya have it. Not really anything left to do on the old girl until I rebuild the motor and repaint the body. That won't be for quite sometime though.
Hopefully the end of summer I can have it resprayed.
                    Uhh what else...

Here is a finished shot of the headlight install. Very happy with how it came out.

Gave Beatrixe a fresh wash and wax today. The old gal still shines!
