Next I fitted a shiny new roundel, the old one was scabby. Shame the new one's plastic, not enamel. Sign of the times I guess.

But best of all these arrived, well two of them. For some reason the seller sent them in two shipments of two. Hopefully the other two will arrive tomorrow or I gave a problem. Trying to blag a set of part worn Toyo's for them off a friend who used them for banger racing. They're banned this season in racing. They're also 195mm so should give a slight stretch on those wheels. I can't wait to get them on the car.

Car dropped off at the bodyshop. I left her in good company. Surgery starts tomorrow.

Bit of rust on the jacking point but luckily only on the surface.

Worst spot on the sill, front passenger side. This will be cut out.

Overall really happy so far, absolutely amazed how solid the car is. Good couple of solid days work still to go but well on target for the first East Coast Retro meet on the 1st March. All four wheels now here. Tyres on order for delivery next week. Happy days all round.

And finally a better look at the gorgeous Escort Mexico, this car in this condition is worth serious money. The US only had a bloated version of the mk 4 Escort, but in the rest of the world these cars ran from the mk 1 in the late 60s to the mk 6 in the late 90s. There were some real hero cars developed by Ford Rallye Sport and the Motorsport division, as well as third party tuners like Zakspeed's mental widebody RS2000s for Group 4 racing. The mk1 and mk2 Mexico cars were named after Ford's dominance of world rallying and famous wins in the Mexico rally, and Escorts kept on winning until Audi came up with the Quattro in the early 80s and sent all the other manufacturers back to the drawing board building prototypes like the Ford RS200 in order to beat Audi's 4WD monster.

Today's job refurbishing the back bumper. First off with the end stops.

Old E36 rad made a handy paint hanger.

4 coats of primer later ready for wetting and painting.

Between coats I tried a bit of old school panel beating. See that nasty kink near the hanger?
