Did a little looking at the location of the leak today, I *Think* there is a small chance that I could drop the driveshaft, Tranny crossmember, Disconnect the exhaust, Move some heater/reservoir hoses, Loosen the motor mounts, and lower the tranny, angling the entire thing down in the rear, the I *Might* be able to reach around the bellhousing and *Maybe* get to the offending plug and replace it. The permanent fix is still going to require pulling the motor.
Geesh, reading that after typing it, the effort it will take to do that, I'm thinking I will probably just skip the band-aid fix, and just pull the damn thing when the parts get here....

Coolant related issues are my worst enemy, Let's hope you can get it done with the motor still in the car, BTW V8 swapped E30's are just infinitely more cooler than M50/S52 swaps 🙂↕️👍 1Leave a comment:

Parts ordered to address the coolant leak. Now to just find the time to drain the coolant, and slide the motor/tranny forward, or pull the whole damn thing.

So I haven't updated This Thread in an extremely long time, but I figured I would come in here to say two things.
One: The Saga of Project: Spielereien took some while twists and turns since the last time I updated this thread, Including a name change, it's now called the dumpster fire. The car ended up sitting idle in storage in a barn for 5 years, and a bunch of other bullshit happened. If you want the full update click the link in my signature, that is the most updated thread, and.....
Two: I will not be updating this thread anymore. I've been doing all the updates on the thread that's Linked In My signature. And that will be the only thread from here on out. Project: Spielereien, aka the dumpster fire, is alive and well, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.
for the 1.5 of you that actually are reading this thread, I hope to see you over on the other thread. LolLast edited by delamaize; 03-30-2026, 07:15 AM.🥰 1Leave a comment:

Nope, it sticks out the back lower portion of the Cooling System Accumulator, and points down towards the bell housing. I actually had to clearance the transmission tunnel close to the firewall so this output didnt rub it.
Sorry about the late reply, I dont get on R3V as much as I use to...Leave a comment:

Oof. Up against the firewall? It's not accessible with the intake manifold off?Leave a comment:

Update: coolant leak is coming from an extra port on the cross over pipe, that I caped with a rubber cap. I used the same cap on an extra port on the reservoir, and that cap was bad when I pulled the car from the barn storage.
To add insult to injury, its in a place where I cant get to it, without pulling the motor. FML.😞 1Leave a comment:

Got my new to me Mtech wheel recovered, Using a kit from Redline Goods. It looks good, not perfect, but I'm happy with it. I accidently trimmed the cover too short on each of the lateral spokes, but I have an idea how to fill the gap, and make it look nice. I'm at work, so I will get some pictures Sunday evening when I'm off duty again.
EDIT: picture added
On the bad list, I developed a coolant leak on the rear of the motor. The leak isn't bad, I usually have to add about 8 Oz of coolant every time I drive it right now. I *think* that It's the hokey hose layout I had to do to make the heater and coolant expansion tank work. I need to come up with a better solution. I'm also considering changing out the rear crossover pipe with a different one. I think the donor car had dual climate zones, and If memory serves me, I have the crossover pipe that has like 4 outputs, rather than the one that has 2, Like this one: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/11531702201/ and simplifying the hose layout, by using stock hoses like these: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-uro-part...218390710~uro/ I used some household 90 Deg brass angles to make a 180 turn to get to the expansion tank, mainly to just get the car on the road. The whole "Don't get it right, get it running." Mantra from David Frieburger, knowing I would need to fix it right later. I'm thinking that the time is quickly approaching. When that project starts, I'll be documenting that here also. My heater blower has started squeaking recently also, I'm hoping when I attack the hose issue, I will have the room to get the blower cover off, and have the room to replace the blower or at the least lube the bushings.Last edited by delamaize; 03-03-2026, 03:54 PM.Leave a comment:

Not much of an update, But something. going to wider tire and fixing the brakes made it possible to drive the Dumpster Fire all the time, even with crap weather. It's still sketchy in the wet, but not like it was. I took it to work the other day, Wow, it does not like the cold! LOL This is when I came out at 0645 and started it to let it warm up before heading home, It defiantly was not happy.

Got the Garagistic Solid Chassis Mounted Short Shifter, Installed, and the PMC Adjustable DSSR over the last 2 days. Got everything installed, Including the offset Gearshift rod joint included with the DSSR. And tried to row though the gears while running, while it was on jack stands. Yeah, the DSSR Hits the output flange/Guibo on the transmission. It wasn't by much, so I ended up going to my local hardware store, picked up a grade 8 bolt, and Nylock nut. Drilled a hole though the entire thing, between the 2 jam bolts. Then cut off one of the ears that held one of the jam bolts, filed it down, and reinstalled it. Nothing is hitting now, even under hard acceleration. It's nice having a gear shifter, rather than a mystery stick, like ghetto-shifter 2.0 was. So crispy, so much better.
Sadly, I was so frustrated, and tired, I didn't take any pictures during the whole process. I did take this installed shot.
If anyone needs some kind or image of how I modified the DSSR, I can draw it in crayon.
Also, picked up some new to me tail lights, and a Mtech 1 wheel. New cover is on the way!
