I think splitters are normally made from cf or fiberglass so that only the splitter breaks upon impact. me thinks if you hit something hard enough or heavy enough say goodbye to the bottom half of your airdam.

Possibly, but it's also going to be able to withstand a lot more steep driveway/parking lot entrance abuse this way.
