Since you lot enjoyed it, gratuitous engine bay picture:

Don't know how people can keep such clean engine bays, I feel a bit sorry for mine. I still need to move that ABS unit somewhere inside the car, get a proper intake and get a washer bottle that isn't from a Fiat uno and that fits somewhere snugly, I wanted to get it in the middle of the cage triangulation point on the passenger side, but can't seem to find one small enough with pump. Any suggestions?
Anyway, during the build the M50 sump was used, and that was a mistake. If I were to do it again, I fully recommend just keeping the S50 sump, preferably the one with 2 oil pickups. This requires a custom subframe but now I realize it would be well worth it.
With the M50 sump the sump is waaayyy too big and the lowest part of the car, so you can't get it as low as you should.
In any case I had to get some sort of sump guard, and of course none of the available ones would guarantee clearance on the huge sump, so I just decided to just go from scratch, so we jigged with a bit of cardboard and made the support:

And then a custom cut and bent bit of aluminium and that's it, ties in the front to the support and in the back to the subframe. I only have this one, after a "little" use:

As it turned out, it was well worth it.
A lot of work also went into the rest of the car upon the swap, I doubted the 323i 27 year old stuff would take much more abuse, so just got, together with the engine and box, the rest of the Z3M Coupe driving train into the e30, with minor mods to accomodate the rear coilovers and e30 size. This way I got big brakes back and front, and reliability.
On the issue of reliability, it seems fast and far apart and I might make it look easy but I've not had that much of tracktime with it as something was always going wrong, and in spite of the changes, it still is, which is a bit frustrating as when everything works, it's totally exhilarating.
Here's a couple of videos, outside and inside on the ring, enjoy:
