Digitalwave - those pics were taken the first day I got the bar in. I currently have an OMP eco, sparco 6 point harnesses, and fia padding on order. It is not my only car - I just drive it more in the summer because it is more exciting than a subaru wagon. The point of my thread was to provide a write up with some information for people who may be attempting a similar project, not to showcase.

Speaking of flipping over - I saw a Honda roll over yesterday. Happened right before my eyes as I was on break at work.
I don't think ANYONE plans on flipping over. That's a pretty moronic notion.
Even if it's done for looks, it still makes the car safer in event of a roll or side impact.87 325IS - Delphin Grey/Cardinal

I would say that flipping over is a pretty random occurence. Did the Honda have a roll bar? Did anyone die? I'm pretty sure that most cars have been through flip over tests before they were unleashed on the public.
Otherwise EVERY car would have a roll bar.
I'm not questioning your motives, just saying that getting the roll bar for "safety" is kind of a reach unless it's a track only car. My opinion.Slicktop City!

I think most of us drive a little faste than some of the posted speed limits. Despite that, even though they do tests, no car is perfect and its safety features give and certain points. So why not help it out? i.e. I have been in 3 accidents in my life, on 2 of them, the seatbelts didnt even lock. Factory safety, hah! :) Roll cages and harnesses here we come!sigpic

Why track only? The track is safer than the streets 9 times out of 10. The accident I saw happened at 30mph, and no, no one died.
You must also understand that vehicles are advancing at an astounding rate. We don't notice it sometimes because most people on this board only care for power/weight and handling. Our 20 year old BMWs are a bit behind in the automotive engineering dept.. Oh, and the honda had a shitload of air bags too.
We can beat this dead horse forever, however my point stands. A car with a roll bar/cage is safer than not having one, assuming proper setup and installation of course.87 325IS - Delphin Grey/Cardinal

Like i said earlier in the thread about my friends: installing a street bar is an admittance you are going to drive dumb. Putting yourself in an environment intended to push your car, it's a safety procaution. If not, you could just try like an adult... my $.02 ;)

Jeez guys, don't you get that it gives his car 400 extra HP? I would think it's main function would be keeping the roof from collapsing in the event of the vehicle somehow finding itself rubber-side up, and having seen what can happen to a car that lands on it's roof it seems like a decent idea. I used to work a ski area here in NH and saw many serious accidents. The road we were on was a fairly main road and right at the top of a pass that always froze early. On top of that there were passing lanes coming up both sides of the pass that ended at the crest of the hill and people would always try and push past that last car before merging back again. When you had two people doing this from either direction the end result was usually a 70 mph head-on which would turn into a 5 or 6 car pile-up. The ski patrol was always the first on the scene too...
Cliff notes: I've seen a lot of car wrecks and like the idea of a street roll bar that allows access to the rear seats.
