Hey, I saw one of those this weekend.

    Also saw one of these.

My town had its annual car show last weekend which features mostly classic American cars (which really got boring after a bit). The second Porsche was for sale for ~$25,000 I think. Don't remember what it was. I don't know if either were legit or a kit cars. I wish I had taken more pictures of them but not enough camera space.

The second one is a 550A Spyder (same car james dean died in). For $25k, it's a kit car, as the originals (if you can find one) go for the price of an average home.

Which had about 140hp. But don't quote me on it.
No, the "pre-911 Porsches" never had VW engines. They were their own Porsche flat-4 aircooled motors that closely mimiced the Type 1 engine. However, they had much higher compression and hemi heads, along with other performance enhanching goodies. I think you may be confusing the Type 4 motor with the speedster "4-cam" motor, which is highly sought after and mucho $$$$$$

The only thing that had the T4 motor were VW Type 4 cars (ugly and rare), later vans (post 71), and 914's. No T4 ever had 140hp... The highest output T4 came with the 2.0L Porsche 914's and made 98hp GROSS.

I had a BUILT 2270cc T4 motor in a Bug (stroker crank and overbored cylinders), huge heads, lumpy cam (108deg lobe center, 300 deg duration, .500" lift) and it made 150hp on a good day, with Weber 44's.

Made that Bug pretty damned quick though...

Did you know the operating RPM and max RPM of a stock VW Type 1 motor is the same? LOL

Here is what 2.3l of engine looks like in the back of a 63 Bug:

That's my ugly ass next to it...

Ever seen many Bugs do this???

The best part was, I had a Bus 4th gear and a 3.88 R/P in the trans... It would cruise at 80-90 and not get hot. It was a great car. I wish I had never sold it!!!
