I don't even have the washer fluid tank anymore, and my window never gets very dirty.

Never toured or took a day trip in your car? Having a washer is a must for bug/debris build up on long trips.

5 valves per cylinder... that's strange

3 intake, 2 exhaust. More, smaller valves can flow more air than less, larger ones. If only the engine didn't have a timing belt keeping all those valves from being eaten by the pistons.
