Looks like a solid car man.
I would shorten the lines on the catchcan setup / re-locate it for the shortest possible venting route.

There's no reason NOT to BAR it.. If it was turbo charged or something else that was crazy, sure but it's a M50 in a late model. He probably needs the exhaust setup cleaned up and a few other things. There's currently a legit un-modified down pipe for sale in Santa Barbara. That's usually the hardest part to find

Can you point me at any examples? I'm all about keeping this simple. That said I'm going to be swapping this motor again to an OBD2 S52 setup (I want the onboard diagnostics for some fun displays/etc) so not sure how worth it it is?

According the guys at Edge the exhaust is close but yeah not kosher (cats are in the wrong location). The dealer smogged it before I bought it, and other than the cone filter, it looks relatively stock so I'm going to not deal with getting it fully BAR'ed until I'm totally sorted on the motor (i.e. S52, etc). I've got a 2 year window now to get this all figured out...

if you don't need to smog it between now and putting the s52 in, don't bother.

BTW if you want to do a BAR-compliant OBD2 swap, you'll need to retrofit the whole evap system. it's not bad, but it's a point of complexity.
