Funny thing, when you said you were going for the look of my car + the plastic bumper swap, I thought of that very same red car!Originally posted by MastrcruseYea, so I am going to have the guys that put the new top on look at the hinges.
Also this is what I am modeling my car off of, its what I am going for.
About the noise - did you ever look at the sway bar mounts on the back, they are common weak points...both where the mount on the body and where the linkage mounts on the control arms. this could cause a clunk/thump especially on corners.
The top would have to be pretty screwed up to make that loud of a noise IMHO.Aaron

What numbers am I looking for? I just want to make sure before I get under the car.Originally posted by 87Blue325iC

Where 10/11 mount into the trailing arm of the car, and where 2/3/4/12 mount into the body. You'll need to probably jack up the rear of the car to see 2/3/4/12, but 10/11 can be see on the ground from behind the car...easier on the pass side instead of drivers, due to the exhaust.Originally posted by MastrcruseWhat numbers am I looking for? Are you driving either of those two cars in your sig around OSU? We need to do a Central Ohio E30 cruise-in. I never see any E30's around town, but there seems to be plenty of Ohio E30 owners on the various forums...Originally posted by bmwe30m3I still need to see your car... Seems like there are only a few E30s at OSU.Aaron

I am still thinking about starting UDM BUCK's when we get back to school. I already have maybe 4 people with e30, me, and my bro (86 325es). So I am all in for a cruise-in, even if it is before we go back but even better if school in going.Originally posted by 87Blue325iCAre you driving either of those two cars in your sig around OSU? Now what should I look for? Should I shake the part and see if its lose? How will I know its bad? And what part usually goes bad?Originally posted by 87Blue325iCWhere 10/11 mount into the trailing arm of the car, and where 2/3/4/12 mount into the body. The mounts on the trailing arms should be pretty obvious - if #10 is loose or in some way not firmly attached to the trailing arm then you have a problem. There is a triangular metal tab that comes out of the trailing arm that the sway bar mount (#10) screws into. These tabs are know to bend or break - although normally it is with bigger aftermarket bars. Here is a stolen picture from another thread that shows the tab (this one has had an extra part welded on to reinforce it) :Originally posted by MastrcruseNow what should I look for? The mounts to the body may be more tricky to tell - grab and shake the sway bar and see what happens, just make sure the car is very securely raised up...as you will be under the car shaking it! Here is a pic from under my car. I have the IE sway bars with the reinforcment mounts, so yours won't look like this...but it will give you an idea of where to look. Instead of the silver block, you should see a half-round metal bracket that is holding the bar to the body of the car - see if the bracket is still firmly mounted to the car.

Having been in C-bus for 10 yrs (although not an OSU student ever) I was hoping not! The streets around OSU aren't the place for a car you want to stay nice for long!Originally posted by bmwe30m3I have neither at OSU...I think a $300 325e is the best bet for a school E30. The roads around OSU are god awful and I'm to anal to park my car on the street.Aaron

Great look to shoot for. I would add smoked Euro Ellips, and Euro side markers. Consider the euro bumper trim as well so the side marker lights are not present. Perhaps body color on the bumper trim as well?
Keep the vision alive and stay interested is the key!
