    summer ride

--------------------------UPDATED SCROLL DOWN TO THE BOTTOM----------------------------------

picked up my first ever project car. Grabbed a 1990 325i vert for 1400$ needs some work. But i flipped a car a few months back and sat on the cash so at this moment im into it for 700 out of my own pocket so not a bad start.

done some basic tune up to it. Got new tires coming, oil change, had the starter rebuilt, compression test, cleaned out the icv, previous owner had just tuned up the brakes as well. Few pics attached. Lucked out with a crack free dash. the whole gague cluster is kaput.

few more pics. I do have a concern, perhaps a few people can shed some light. whats this blue wire by the wheel? The car was lowered by the previous owner so unsure if its a direct result of that or not.

Thanks again. I got a few more pics but they wont load for the moment. many things to come. I work in a body shop so its due for a coat of paint very soon!

That car looks about like mine did when I bought it including the faded pink looking paint. :) I bet it will buff out, there should be no need to respray unless you just want to. Your seats look pretty good too. Check out my thread, it's titled 325I vert rolling restoration. I'm not really sure what that blue wire is, if it's on the left front it might be the brake pad wear sensor wire. Also, if you don't know when the timing belt and water pump were last changed, I would do them both ASAP.

That car has a really good interior from those pics. 2nd that the wire is the pad sensor, i would bet a nickle your brake lining light is on

Yes it is and the anti lock is on as well. that's for the passenger rear wheel. does it just slide back in with some fine tuning or do you have to disassemble that whole piece and put it back in?

2 other concerns i have are less problems and more of just me not knowing what its supposed to look like. First one is the radio wiring they had an aftermarket radio in it but its no good. but the wiring just looks awful and second just the look of the wiring under the dash has me a bit concerned.

the lighting has done some justice for the interior but i would give it a 6-7 / 10 which i am happy enough with. Water pump and timing belt are on the way as well. Carpets in rough shape but it seems as if the convertible carpet isnt easy to acquire at all.

Yep... that looks very familiar. :) the carpet will probably clean up pretty good with a rug doctor. Mine did. As for the blue wire, if it's right rear wheel then it's most likely the pad wear sensor. There are two pad wear sensors, one on the front left and the other is on the right rear. It's really just a loop of wire that is in a white plastic block with a peg sticking out of it. The peg snaps into a hole in the top of the inner brake pad. Just get a new sensor, they are really cheap. As for the ABS light, I would bet it's either a wheel speed sensor or the vehicle speed sensor that is mounted in the rear end. The wiring under the dash looks okay, it has just fallen down. Just carefully zip tie it back up and make sure you don't have any cut or unplugged connectors while you are at it. And finally, do a search on here for E30 stereo wiring, there is a great write up about it that really helped me out. It's not to hard to figure it all out, it just takes time. :) good luck.

thank you sir for the info. The carpet has a terrible stain it may need to be dyed but the carpet is brown as well so it may be going black soon enough
