    '91 318is OEM+

    Hey r3v,

After my 5 year hiatus, I'm back in the e30 game. I picked this little guy up a few weeks back; Alpine white '91 318is with 223K on the clock, 1 owner. In pretty nice shape inside & out. Needs? Well the front suspension is shot so that's the first thing that needs to be addressed. Cold start rattle is pretty high up on the list as well. I'll be fixing/upgrading things throughout the course of ownership, but the plan is to keep it pretty close to stock. Anyway, stay tuned for more.

Despite lack of new parts (en route!), I figured I'd tear the front suspension apart in the mean time.

    Yikes

Nice. I am excited to see another AW 318is thread!

The cold start rattle could be the timing chain tensioner. I replaced mine with the updated M44 version (old style discontinued) a few weeks ago and it solved my rattle. It's a quick 10 minute job.

Thanks mike, big fan of your 318is! I actually got one on order! I'm just glad the cam gear teeth look good on this one. Had to redo the entire chain on my old 318iC; what a pain.

Is that what happens when you don't install them correctly? With the car on the ground or whatever.

They were the factory bushings so it was just due to the dry-rot.
