Even at stock height, the hub of the wheels in the front are higher than the diff, imagine what lowering the car could do. From what I've heard you can go many miles lowered but you will eventually wear out the CV joints, I've seen this on a lowered iX with 200.000 km on it (no idea for how long it had been lowered).
You can't buy anything but complete shafts with joints these days, if you deal with BWM original parts resellers. It could get expensive.

there are lots of people with lowered ix's.. and I've never seen anyone with a lowered ix actually report a problem with their CV joints. the boots can rub together and wear out, but that's easily solved by stretching it out a little and using some sillicone grease. Also, the angle on a stock ride height car isn't all that much.
I'm at 10,000 miles on my suspension with 150,500 on the chassis.
btw, nice car. any plans for it? those wheels don't look too bad. Most people who have ix's and aftermarket wheels seemingly always buy the nastiest looking ones they can.. either that or most aftermarket wheels just look stupid on the ix. I'm not sure which it is. :)

Well for one iX I saw at Bav's show and shine it was rocking the BBS RK's. Definately a hot car.
Nice car too, the rims are ok, kinda ricer, but better than most!

I read further on this issue on swedish/german forums and as you say; the angle of the drive shafts will wear heavily on the CV boots. But fact still remains, in Sweden a lot of iX owners with lowered chassis have had problems with the CV joints on the front drive shafts (their tales don't tell if this is due to poor maintenance or not).
damn guys i know you hate my wheels but don't stereotype all ixer's....i'll get new ones i swear. bbs or ssr comps so i dont think i can go wrong this time.
