    First pictures of my E30

This is my $250 E30. I bought it from a "dealer" who claimed that his mechanic deemed the motor completely unusable. He said it had zero compression, or was possibly seized. So I took it home, tinkered around the motor for about an hour, and she started right up... But naturally, I had to go and do something stupid like pull the motor out 5 days after I bought it... Here she is in her current state:

I believe that I might be the first person to install the M30 from the bottom up... Or maybe not, I don't know. But I think it was a bit easier than it would have been going in from the front. The coolest little detail of this entire swap so far has been the shift linkage, everything from the E24 fit perfectly without any modification!! I should have more pictures and details soon... Enjoy!

Looks good. How hard was the swap? Do you have to change the booster like on the m/s50 swaps? What engine mounts did you use?

The swap was pretty damn easy... It took about an hour to get the motor into the car, get everything lined up and bolted in. I used the www.e30.de motor mount brackets, stock M20 mounts, stock booster, stock E24 shift linkage, and we will see about the driveshaft later today... By all indications, it should fit perfectly without being shortened.

Good to hear. Did you use the m20 tranny? How about the wiring?

I used the Getrag 265 out of the 6 series as well, gotta go with the beef! Wiring will be simple, this is an L-jet motor and harness going into the early fuse box (square plug) so I am only connecting 6 wires total, plus some custom shiznat to make a tach work.

The early euro motors were different in a few ways. This one is a 3453cc motor, and it's technically known as an M90. Its basically the block and forged crank that they built for the last generation of 3.0/3.5CSL race cars. It's got a 2mm shorter stroke than the standard M30, and 93.355mm bore instead of the standard 92mm. It also runs 9.3:1 compression, and makes 218hp and around 230ft/lbs standard.

It will definitely be ready by spring, if not sooner, so if you are in the area I'd love to show off my ugly ass 335i!

                      Nice job on the swap!

                      Do all the work yourself?

You are going to love the power delivery!!!!
                      I hear it is awesome!

What else is done to the car?

I did the swap myself, with some help from my dad.

the power should be awesome!! I swapped a 3.0 into my Alfa last year and loved it, but this is a much more drastic difference. The Alfa went from 156hp to 185hp, this car is going from 121hp to 218hp!! I can't wait to drive it.

The car is completely stock still other than the motor... I am joining the ANG and I will be gone for the next couple months most likely, so until I get back not much is going to change... But when I do she will be getting a full suspension overhaul, headers, interior, roll bar/cage, and still be ugly on the outside because I have no desire to change the bumpers!! :pimp:

That car is dying for boost...

Nice swap, now please throw a gt30r or bigger size turbo in there...

So, this almost seems like an m50 swap minus the need to change the booster? So what is the wiring like? DO you have to change over the c101 plug on the e30 side like the m50? (Am I right here?) So will the m20 gearbax work with this motor? How much was the mounts? Is that all you have to get to make the motor sit in the car?
