    Joining the E30 family

I've been wanting to get a beater for while and I finally picked up a 91 318is about a month ago. So far the only thing I can say comparing it to my 03 330i zhp is that its definately different. In the past 3 years, i've had 3 e36s, 1 e34, 1 e46 and now i have an e30. The transition from E36 M3 to ZHP was just bleh, it felt newer, its better that e36's crappy interior, but driviblity wise it wasnt as different as i thought it would be.

Going from E46 to E30 = wow. E30 is a gokart. Even with stock blown front shocks and ghetto all season tires, it still takes corners like no other car i've driven.

Anyways, its a 91 318is with unknown milage, but odometer is stuck at 173k, so i'm guessing around 200k right now. Picked it up for $1k + tax + $120 in small repairs. It has few dents and few scraches, but i'm not really worry about those kind of things. It has a kenwood radio that matches interior lighting, it had pioneer amp in the back, which is ripped out and i'm in process of ripping out the wires from the trunk that were used with the amp. PO replaced water pump, tires, radiator, belts, plugs, and few other things I'm forgetting.

Not too bad of a car there! A non-sunroof example, too. I spy some dents in the roof, did it get caught out in a hailstorm? We had a monster hailstorm here last year that cracked the shit out of my brother's windshield, but strangely, my car was unharmed. Is that a seat cover on just the center section of the passenger seat? I had to look twice at it.

    Welcome to R3V!

Oh yeah..?? I'm just surprised and glad to hear this cause many folks who go on to test drive an E46 rave about handling as well. All in all I guess i need to corner an E46 personally to get the impression since I've sat behind the wheel of E30's.

thank you all for kind comments.

It will probably receive an M50 later on, right now i'm trying to decide on suspension and wheels. My main concern is suspension since front shocks are leaking and it rides like a buick over road bumps.

What i'm looking for is a stiff ride, yet I dont want it to be bumpy like hondas with cut springs, and i also dont want my tires to be tucked in. Any suggestions?

why is it that everyones beaters are nicer than my prized e30? good deal for the rare non sunroof. sweet pick up, wish i could find one that cheap.

teaguer too with his fuckin 600 dollar beater with glass moonroof and sexyness all over it. gah! maybe i need a job.

                    end rant.

lol i find this rather funny because the m3 purists get all upset when an m3 gets butchered...well im gonna have to go ahead and say that the m42 should stay.

the 318is is a relatively rare model...its much harder nowadays to find a nice clean 318is than a 325i/is.

im the new m42 purist

You don't need a beater -you've got the cookie cutter :P
                          - skipping the E36 generation completely -

Take a look at my sig. Im riding on Bilstein sports and H+R sport springs. Nice subtle drop, definately not ricey, and the car handles nice and tight (a little too tight for New England roads sometimes).

On the e46/e36/e30 handling question, my roomate has a 04 325xi and it makes my e30 feel like its jet propelled and on rails. My e36 is a balance between both.
