Another little update on the E30

i cant remember what i showed you guys last time, but it has been about two months since i posted an update, and a few things were "updated"

as most remember, the car looked like this

well after about 8 hours of sanding and stripping i finally laid down 3 coats of "Red-D-Arc Silver" spary paint (yes spray paint, its the best the car gets) and the hood looks like this

in the upper right corner, near the windshield there was a large patch of bondo. a wood chisel and a small hammer and 30 minutes of time and most of it was chipped away. though i am having a hard time sanding it bacause it eats through my sandpaper very quickly.

this stuff is the ultimate for doing what i did. fucks the paint up. makes it bubble and a razor blade just scrapes it right off of the metal. very nice

i noticed that the passenger headlight looks like a lazy eye. just wanted to say that. and show you

the only reason the other grill isnt on is because if i attach it it is at a wierd ass angle, i need to bend the metal out more to make it look acceptable.

i got a seat from mr. deagle to replace the seat i had that had to be held up by a 2x4 with a seat that needs some atention.

i stripped apart the old seat i had and am going to transfer the leather and foam to the one i have right now, but i just need to find the time. at least i dont need a 2x4 anymore. lol

another thing that got updated was my stereo. before it was just an empty void, with some cables laying up in there.

but after two nights and some inquisition, mr. deagle and i installed a nice jvc deck. and we re-wired all the speakers, though the front passenger one is blown. but it sounds pretty good. i had a video, but youtube is being a pain in the ass and wont upload it. i will try tomorrow or later today.

    here it is.

we couldnt find the 12vdc wire for when the key is in the acc position to power the deck up, so we had to wire in a switch. which i think is pretty cool, just because i dont need my key in or anythng to have the deck play music. so far i havent forgot to shut it off (knock on wood)

if you have any questions feel free to ask. i dont know everything, but i do know some things. thanks

Nice stereo, is that to disguise the noise of parts falling off as you fly down the highway??

    Just kidding

Looks like you are making some progress, keep it going! I know how much of a bitch it can be to tackle big projects.... Sometimes they just take forever. I like the color on the hood, are you just doing the hood that color or are you going to do the whole car? Lots of people laugh at the thought of a spray can or roll on paint job, but if you do it carefully and take your time, they can come out great and cost almost nothing compared to a professional job!

    Wanna buy some bumpers? lol

yeah, and the noise of the fan belt falling to pieces. lol;)

it takes time. but i look at pics of when i first bought it, and i look at it now and i am amazed. though i am only doing work that is relatively inexpensive. the car isnt worth dumping lots of money into.

i think i am going to just have the hood like that, and possibly the passenger fender when i straighten out the side where the fender attaches to the car. cause the paint is chipped on that, so the silver would make it look better. and i like the spray paint, and you can only notice the flaws when you are really close. i have to wet sand it again and add another coat though. it stands up through car washes and everyday weather very nicely. i am pleased.

and i have all the front end pieces. they just dont attach right. the metal bumper secures fine on the drivers side, but the passenger side rattles like a fucking snake. pisses me off to the point that i just took it off.

and yes fuzz, progress kicks ass.

you will need to chop the front end off a junkyard car and weld it onto yours. good luck! i'd like to see you have that 325es lookin smoov some day.

that is actualy going to happen one day, just not for a while. i want to get a late model 325is before i do that to the car. i will be using the front end off of a car that someone already has, they just have to do thing to it.

Brew- i drive it everyday. about 20 miles a day.

mtechnik- thanks, i like to do that kind of thing though i am hitting a wall with what i can do to it. but i will keep chugging along.

markseven- no that isnt me in the pic. it is my buddy dan. i have a picture floating around here of me holding a new bimmer emblem but somebody photoshopped a cock in there. i am sure someone can find it. i look a lot younger than i am though.

If you could just fix the front end so you could start putting it back together it might be a decent beater but did that radio cost more than the car?

Wow, 8 hours to strip the hood? With the right tool you could have done that in 30 min. and I mean just an angle grinder.

yeah the radio was more than twice the car, the oil and filter was pretty close to the price of the car, the battery was more than the car and the hood was the same price as the car.

i cant do bodywork for shit. and i know no one who will do it for any price that is worth having it done.

I don't understand why you would purposely mismatch the paint.
Besides that looks like it is coming along slowly but I give you props for doing it yourself and saving another e30 from the junk yard. Like another member also mentioned you'll have a bitch of a time fixing the front end. It would be better to simply cut and weld on new pieces instead of trying to straighten that mess. Good luck

well i didnt have any other color that i could use. i am pretty sure i could have gotten a close match at an auto store, but i had this spray paint at my house, and a lot of it. so i just used it.

thanks, i have learned a lot by doing it, and i am glad it isnt in a junkyard. i went to one two weeks ago and i saw an e30 that had been there for 18 years. broke my heart.

yeah a new front end will be a must before i sell the car to my brother.
