cool pics. am i the only one that HATES 99% of drift cars?? they look so stupid. the S13.4 doesnt look bad, actually. usually that conversion looks poopy IMO. but yeah, pics are cool.
i agree. those all looked pretty beat to shit. and dont give me "Its a race car, they arent perfect" bullshit. i've been around and seen REAL race cars look 100X better than those. why the hell are drift cars always torn up?
These arent real race cars genious. Most of these cars, with a handful of exceptions, are built completely by their owners.
The "real" race cars have so much sponsorship shoved up their ass they can afford to look nice. Those who cannot afford as much deal with maintenance/suspension first.
And since drifting is still relatively cheaper and less of an investment than a track day (arguably track days have much more seat time per dollar), track days start in the $300s.... where a drifting event can be as low as $50. It's a lot easier to put $50 for a couple laps now and then.
I completely understand that some people just dont see the point of drifting, but what you're saying is pure ignorant bullshit.
ive seen non-sponsored race cars(not drift cars) and not even big-time race cars but just weekend warrior track rats look better than those. sure its cheap, but maybe some of those guys could spend that 50 bucks and buy some more zipties to hold on their bumpers or something.
what did i say that was "pure ignorant bullshit"? could it be that i *THINK* drifting is lame? that my friend, is an opinion.

nice pics, but drifting= lame.

thats not really what i was getting at.
this is what i mean. this car = fugly.
this is what i picture a clean S13 looking like.
but look at the pro drift cars. they body kits are just rediculous. they just dont look good. the colors are flashy and generally obnoxious as they can possibly be. that just takes alot away from it.
and ill be posting some updates of my S14 next weekend. the shop where my car is at called me up yesterday. even though the car isnt yet running, they wanted to know if they could enter it into detroits autorama. free detail, free weekend pass, and i dont pay for shit. theyre having it brought downtown on a flatbed and entering the car on wenesday. i finally got to see the wheels on the car, and the car on the ground today. its a good feeling.
lol, sorry digitalwave. you can have your thread back. lol.
i just want to add. i know drifting takes alot of skill, and balls. i wouldnt try it with my car. ive got too much money into it to risk putting it into a wall or something. i generally prefer a down to earth, daily driven car over a show car. door dings and things of that sort are perfectly fine with me. many drift cars lack good taste if you ask me. thats all i think.
^ That's perfectly fine. I used to think that way until a lot of kits started mellowing me out. I dont think an e30 would look good with anything of that style (like Harri's e34 front bumper), but I think 240sx's can pull it off quite nicely... especially with Origin, Vertex and BN Sports.

dont hate on driftin because you arent any good at it. The cars are beat to shit because the cars are usually bought and built to race. When they wre bought they didnt have good paint to start with. They arent suppose to look like pristine race car that is sponsored and can afford nice paint and stuff. This is home-garage warrior type of stuff here.
Have you seen the viper drift car? Or falken drift cars....you know why they has nice paint? Cuz its sponsored by a company. Not one persons income...
Every time this man posts pictures of his drifting there always someone that hates on it someway. I think its a little more more entertaining that watching you car parked at sunset......
I think that the S13 coupe body is one of the nicest Jap built cars ever made. And having more to offer than the E30. The SR20DET motor is about bullet proof and has some amazing lines. I looked for a coupe for a long time after buiding a friends and only went with the E30 due to it had more class and not everyone was driving one! Well not ones to my standards anyway!
Erik, keep it up man, I love seeing your pics and one day Ill make it to an event to watch. Me Im more of a road course kind of guy!
Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

i don't think you should be so scared of it. on a street, yes, there are dangers and risks (and i think quite dumb) but in a big open parking lot with cones to hit? not terrifying. If you spin, you usually go just around and the car will slow itself pretty fast. unless you are flying in a roadcourse 3rd gear drift, it's similar to auto-xing. as least in my [minimal] experience. maybe getting into 225s and turboes it may be more to worry about at faster speeds, but look at the near stockish e30 - nothing to run and hide from. you should think about finding a open practice day and learning, it's fun.
i like a simple clean look, not flashy. but then again not everyone is into conservative and flashy gets attention. look at whores. sluts get more love than nice girls who are classy
yeah, it really depends on the 'track'. there really arent many places they do it around here. my buddy steve started drifting his relatively stock S13 last summer. i think he went to 2 events before he was forced to retire..
he used to say the same thing.. i couldnt imagine this being my car.
Shells for $500 are a dime a dozen here.... I can name about 10 guys here in SFL that have their own engine lifts. Hell... I've seen people join in groups and pull motors with muscle. When someone crashed, it was as easy as get new shell, throw new motor in, throw all suspension bits, and keep sliding.
Plus, most guys learn their main lesson after the first shell.... most guys that have been around the scene since the beginning have a clear sense of safety, knowing when and where to push their limits. Yes accidents can happen, but the number of totalled cars has been going down quite fast.
As for safety in events, yea.... it depends on the event though. This last one had a hairpin, which if you had a perfect line, you'd come straight at it at 40-50mph, and if you mess up there... you'd be screwed. Not a lot of people pulled that off though... so no accidents happened there.
Again, it's all commitment. Finding parts for a kouki s14 would be 10x harder than finding parts for an s13.
