These threads always turn out the same. Someone did something stupid and fucked up. Then everyone gets up all high on their respective horses and talks down to them. Whoever said we all make mistakes and to get back up on the horse is right. Im sure Frank realizes what could have happened, hes not an idiot.
Plus there two people, might even be moderators, whove posted in this thread who have lost their licenses for a year for doing stupid shit in their cars on the street (1 of which had alcohol involved). They of all people should be understanding of this situation.
Frank fucked up, hes paid the price. Ill admit Ive made mistakes before as well. Were all human. What matters is that he seems to understand the situation and is trying to move forward in the right direction.Back to my roots

You can say my name, I don't care. It doesn't bother me anymore. I don't know who the other person you're referring to that had alcohol involved, but it sure as shit wasn't me! :D And that was 5 years ago.
Now as far as being understanding, I was VERY understanding up to the point of finding out that he was drunk. Now while I still feel bad that he wrecked the car, I don't feel bad for HIM. That's all I'm saying. But I also know that he's not here looking for sympathy.Comment

Josh's right, so is Fielding. I fucked up. I can't reiterate it enough. However, I'm well aware of the whole darwin theory of natural selection. The stupid people get voted off the island first, that's the way it goes. Whatever I choose to do with my car, I hope you guys know I'm doing it for the best.
I know some of you are secretly hoping I part it. I won't sell my parts for profit, i'll tell you that. Especially to the forum. I have alot of goodies on that car such that I think alot of people will be interested in. I could be wrong though, whatever.
I'm trying to convince myself that E30's aren't for me anymore and that i'm outgrowing it and that It's really not "me" in order to feel OK about parting it if that's what I decide, but it's hard, bc i think that i may always have that itch...Recent Rebranding!!

I really think you should just keep driving it as is, at track events etc. Learn to drive with 400hp, get all the stupid street WOT out of your system, then start over.
Don't use the alcohol as a scape goat... You made a big jump from 170hp to 400ish... just learn to use it, and you'll be good.

I honestly believe that you made a big mistake Frank, and you know it! I also believe that you've learned from it, 100%. Don't try to convince yourself you hate the car now because you fucked up. If you love your car, fix it or find another shell and continue.
Best of luck man.Comment

TCD = TurboCharging Dynamics.
If you decide to not part it out and rock it like that for a while (or replace that 1/4 panel), I'll gladly fly up there and teach you a thing or two so you know what to do in case of emergencies. I'm almost with enough miles on my card to issue a domestic flight. :)Erick Mahle | FullOpp Drift | YouTube

I feel for you man, I know how it felt when I r3v the euro 323i and had Jordo and every one else slamming me. I was stone cold sober and made a dumb ass mistake. It sucks, but don't let it tear you away from cars.. There is still a place here for you, despite what TJ and some others might try to make you think.Comment

That quarter panel and tail panel dont look too bad to repair. Get some parts cut out from a wrecker and do the body work yourself. If you've painted the car yourself then you can probably do body work. If you can do it yourself you're going to save a ton of money!
I learned how to do body work on my 68 Barracuda and while its a pain in the ass, its really not so hard to do.
And doing the body work will be a ton easier than swapping over the drivetrain, etc. to a clean shell.Comment

You know why it pisses me off? Because this fuckface could have killed his 2 passengers, himself, and anybody else on the road or off the road when we wrecked. If you wrecked by himself while completely sober in the middle of the desert, I could care less, but he put his life and other people's lives on the line and that is exactly how thousands of innocent people die every year. It's also the reason that guys like me with a spotless driving record have to pay out the ass for insuranceWhy cant we all just reach out and help him. instead of feeding him bullshit to the head saying part it out, or drop everything and quit. FUCK THAT! you get knocked off the bike, bitch, get the fuck up and hop on and try again. we all live to learn. learning from experiences is the best way to learn. if we all didn't, we would all be the same, and there isn't enough room for all you assholes in here as it is. so how about this. everyone who doesn't like his car, his motor, his driving, his roller paint job, and how he turned every wrench to achieve this car, fuck off. plain and simple. who gives a shit if you don't like it? you don't see me bitching about how rank your sisters waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles smells.
Frank, you are taking it like a man and I honestly expected you to get much more defensive with the shit I have been giving you. I give you props for that. I'd hate to see you part out your car and get out of E30s totally. You have a lot of good stuff going for you, you just need to learn how to control the car, and control all that power. Maybe detune the motor or remove the turbo for a while, and get a grasp on car control. Then add the power back if you so desire (I always found the 170hp of an M20B25 to be plenty, personally) and learn how to control that power again.Comment

I speak from experience. Its so easy to get on ones soapbox at stuff like this because society has indocrinated that us busted for DUI are the worst shit on this earth...........until it happens to you. I respect you all who do NOT make exceptions and never drive with even ONE beer. Thats cool. But dont think those of us who fuck up dont feel like absolute shit about it. Its a complete lottery. Any time any of your parents ges to dinner even sharing a few bottles of wine, they are legally "drunk" and get labelled "drunk drivers" over a few beers. I had 3 beers when I got popped and was at .08 BAC the legal limit. And anyone that knows me knows FULL well that 3 beers to me is like the beginning the the warm up. These actions are what I needed to go through to learn accountability and get it through my thick head. Im actually greatful I got my DUI's cuz if nt I was burning them at both ends and I would have killed myself or someon else who knows. But god saved me from that. Im LUCKY I only got popped for alky. I used to carry ounzes and bricks of rock and blow around shitty neighborhoods high on everything driving like a true idiot looking like a gangster and NEVER got stopped. I drink 3 beers and get popped. Theres a message in that that took me a long time to see. Im not ashamed of anything Ive had to go through legally, except the DUI's. It carries such a stigma (some waranted) by the MADD crusaders.
Besides.......I drive way better when Im drunk, man (just to keep this light).

I understand Frank made a mistake, hell i have made similar mistakes (minus alcohol and other people) in my life, and i am sure i will make more. but thats life. after he spent all this time, effort, money, blood, tears and heart into this project, simply telling him to part it, or go with a new shell is not what he needs to hear. we also dont need to be ripping him to shreds about how stupid he is. granted what he did was stupid in a lot of aspects, but we dont need to keep reiterating that fact. all he has to do is go out to his garage, look at the damage, and remember what happened. that and putting the car back together should be punishment enough. he didnt hurt anyone, or anything, besides his car.
we have all been in the situation where a girl or a friend wants you to push the limits of your car. and what do you do everytime? you push those limits. granted none of us are sitting on however much horsepower he has, but still the same terms still apply.
Frank dont give up. i followed your car forever. take the time, gather the parts and knowledge and put the damn car back together. you may be inexperienced now, but after this accident you will learn. and you will be able to control the power. you have come far too far to give up on this car. suck it up man and bite the fact of what you did. live and learn man. thats all there is to it.
good luck.Comment
